Lost my best friend today.
« on: February 07, 2010, 05:33:44 PM »
Here's a depressing post... lost my dog Angus last night. Had to put him down as he was in too much pain because of a legion on his brain that would swell.

Me and my brother had him from birth (the runt of the litter). I was 8 then, now I'm 28. I've lost family before but never felt this hurt. I keep hearing noises in the house and go looking for him without thinking. Totally lost my best friend.

He looked like a mix of squirrel and meercat! He was smaller than most cats.

Not sure why I'm posting here, not looking for sympathy... it's all a bit pathetic and I'll probably delete it later but wanted to share for now.

EDIT: Excuse the stupidly giant pic...

My condolences. :(

He looks like a right character, 20 years is a bloody good innings as well.

I don't think this is a pathetic post at all. I know the pain you are feeling and I send you my condolences. All you can do is think of the good times and that you gave the little guy a good home and he stuck around so long because of it. He must have had a great life and a kind master and if asked would have given a glowing report. I wish you well at this sad time.

I completely understand your feelings having been through the same.  As has already been mentioned, twenty is a mighty age for a dog and a clear sign of happy and fulfilled life.  My condolences to you at this sad time.

That is truly sad news Lew .  :(

Sometimes our furry friends embody more 'human' qualities than we do.  To emphasise how noble and relevant  this post is -  I remember when a Doctor at our local surgery ( who one might assume had a relatively detached perspective on mortality ) lost her beloved dog , she had to take a few days leave - inconsolable, and unable to function in public.

People like you and her , enhance my faith in human nature.  What a blessing that Angus appeared in your lives - and that he found a very loving home to appreciate him.

( If you delete your original post we will all sulk ! )

My condolences. I had a dog throughout my childhood that died in my mid teens - I know how you feel. They're family members and loyal friends and can indeed be remarkably 'human'; its a crushing blow to lose them.

I recently lost a dog a week ago. Well it was my Grandma's dog. Reggie, wire haired jack russel. He was smelly and lazy but he was bloody ace.

Sounds like he had a similar problem.

I know how it feels, I hate walking through the front door and not seeing him any more :(

Sorry to here 'bout Angus, he looks like a good friend :)

Very sorry to hear this Lew, and as others have said it's not a pathetic post at all.

I think in some ways losing a pet hits harder than losing a relative - maybe because all the memories are good ones, whereas a relationship with a person has a lot more ups and downs.  I still sometimes dream* about my dog even though she died over 20 years ago.
