Got GAS? Depressing Near-Impossible?

Personally (and I'm probably posting on the wrong forum for this...) I think that we spend waaay too much time focusing on new kit.

That said, my gas has only abated and changed direction a bit. Now I want recording gear more than guitar gear, with one recurring thought about a custom amp from Mr MJW, which would largely be for recording and can-gig-as-well. I dont have the rabid need for it I usually do though. I try to remember my sig and that many people do better than I do with less, as well. That keeps it in check most of the time.

Having good stuff that youre satisfied with certainly helps as well - my legras have pretty much cured me of guitar gas, for example :D

Prices have gone up, my cash flow has gone down. Plus I have a car that needs spending on and that's what I'm focussing on.

I'm fortunate enough to have some kick ass gear so everything else I would get is just extra.

I still have GAS but I have it under control and I try not to expose myself to temptation.

I've solved alot of my problems by SELLING guitars. Yes there are a couple I'd like, but nothing I'm desperate for. I really thought I was going to be mega depressed for ages but that wasn't the case. The problem for me (aside from all the cash tied up in them) is that with lots of guitars come lots of string purchases and changes if you gig them, lots of pick up and hardware changes, storage problems and for me the worst one was..... deciding what to take to gigs. I tried to rotate them but found that didn't work as ceratin guitars work better than other with the set and the bloody headaches I had trying to decide what to take was seriously unbearable. These days it's a lot easier, and to be honest I'm ALOT happier with less than half the guitars I used to have.

If it's an 18w MJW with power scaling and effects loop you want, let me know as I need to fund my next and slightly louder MJW. I may keep the current one as I like it.... but I'm pondering

As I said earlier, to me (and I would wager plenty of other folks, especially those who don't gig), it's about:

having fun
trying different gear out
hunting down bargains
learning how to modify guitars
the thrill of buying and trading
etc
etc

Plenty of us have guitars for the fun of guitars, regardless of the actual music.....

Each to their own. I buy gear to use for my musical purposes.

I am in fact interested in the 18W MJW. I'm interested in getting hold of one and sticking pedals infront of it (in all likelyhood; I know its a low gain amp) and recording it and seeing what it can do with some manipulation and when placed in a mix. Its worth a try, subject to price. Gives me a usefull starting point if I do go through with a custom metal amp with martin as well.

I always think it's just worth keeping in mind that almost any musician I look up to or who inspires me, pretty much gets through their entire career with one or two guitars and whatever amp the promoter at that night's gig has been able to hire for them.

I remember being blown away and enlightened, when I saw the set up / rehearsal section of the DVD " An Evening With Joe Pass " - when he chose to go D.I. to he house P.A. as his 'rig' .

Having said that, I am yet another person who would really love to get Martin at MJW to build me a Jazz Combo .  Small,  sweet, clean - and most of all 'M.J.W' quality.    As long as he doesn't expect me to demo mine with anywhere near the same panache as Adrian Ingram tested his !  8)

I go one step further by probably liking the making stuff that sounds cool and making stuff sound cooler more than playing. Especially as I have bugger all competency when it comes to playing. Still enjoy it though and to be fair, I don't spooge a great deal on it, most of my stuff is cheap as chips.
