Hiya Folks,
I wanted to make a quick clip of my beloved 'Manhattans' - but this time with round wound strings. The forum regulars will recall I did a trio of clips with Manhattans / Archtop/ flatwound strings some time ago , then more recently samples of AII and AIV Stormy Mondays in a fully hollow Archtop with roundwound strings.
As the Manhattans are probably a bit more detailed sounding than the previous flatwound samples indicated ;
AND to allow browsers a better compare the Stormy Mondays and Manhattan options in the same context - I present this quick arrangement of " The Very Thought Of You" :
http://www.box.net/shared/skpbqk3uhk Again, no amp simulation, just Tapco interface, into basic Tracktion software - with only a 'Light reverb' filter enabled. I obviously wanted to ensure all sound clips were recorded in exactly the same way, even if they were all recorded rather 'flat'. I have done
all my sound clips with both pickups on together - and volume / tone controls full on. I feel that if you hear the 'raw' product - it's easier for you to imagine what E.Q changes you would make. I can confirm that B.K.P. Stormy II. Stormy IV. and Manhattans - all sound lovely through a solid state amp with flat E.Q - so there is
plenty of extra 'juice' to be extracted from these lovely pickups with your favourite valve amps. On balance, the Manhattans being the most restrained, the AII Stormies, sweet, but getting zingy - and the AIV Stormies, starting to 'bite' a bit and giving an edge to the finer details.
Now, it's time for me to scuttle off to actually study and
practice . " Time on the instrument" - as they say.
Do not fully judge the B.K.P. by my novice arrangements and rather basic recording methods. I had hoped Jimmy Bruno might oblige, but he was tied up in New York, so I had to step in ... :mrgreen:
Cheers ! :)
