Today I set out on a mission to trade my Carvin for an Ibanez Artist. I was looking for something Jazzy/Rock looking and the Artist fit well.
Turned up at the shop and the staff didn't know what to make of it. They loved how it looked but had no idea how to price it. They said they'd phone me tomorrow to let me know.
So off I went to other shops I regularly visit, one shop wouldn't even consider looking at it because they knew nothing of Carvin and didn't know what it was worth.
Frustrated I went off to another shop, turned up and tried out some guitars, surprisingly I fell in love with a Jim Root Telecaster. Not what I was looking for, but something hit me and I loved how solid it felt and how easy it was to play.
Guy in the shop gave me a really low offer so I said no and went on my way.
So I tried one last shop, the shop I've bought quite a bit from in the last year or so. Again turned up, got a better offer and looked around.
Tried out a 72 reissue Tele (two humbucker thing with a wierd scratch plate and pickups), next I tried out an American Standard Tele, Felt cool but didn't really amaze me.
Looked up and saw a Jim Root tele but in a different colour to the one I previously tried. Still loved it even through a Fender Blues Deville. Then I went onto business.
They offered me £440 for my Carvin off the £699 asking price for the Tele. Hesitant I went off to the nearest cash point to check my balance. Too little money (damn unemployment) so I went back and tried to haggle.
They wouldn't come down on the price but offered me a plan to pay 10% of the remainder over 10 months. I snatch it instantly as this works well for me as I'll be working again near the end of the month.
So I'm now the proud owner of a Fender Jim Root Telecaster. Not what I was considering at all but I've fallen in love with it, it's so solid, acousticly loud and warm. Plugged in it's very versatile, very clean jazzy tone with the neck pickup, to slightly overdriven blues tones to very chuggy metal rhythms. I'm not in love with the EMG's, but they're ok for now till I get money together to go passive. I used to HATE telecasters as much as Roo, but I've now developed a love for them.
