Facebook's ever (d)evolving user privacy policy is a worry. The site is essentially on one big data gathering machine for targeted advertising. They even collect data about you from other online sources. Ooh and here's the doozy, but then you've probably read the terms and conditions for using the site so are well aware that the data they gather, or anything you post or upload can be exploited by them without license and shared with any company they choose.
Ever questioned why Facebook has all this integration with these external sites and services? All that aggregated information about you is a marketers wet dream, they have detailed information about what you read, look at, listen to, what you say etc. The more you put up on the site and the more data you pull from outside sources into Facebook the better profile you build of yourself for them to exploit.
It's quite interesting who funded Facebook as well, have a gander at Accel Partners. I find it curious that Accel's manager is directly connected to a board member of another venture capital firm called In-Q-Tel who have a focus on data mining technologies.
Hmm data mining technologies and all that detailed information about 400,000,000 odd users.
Tin foil hat time
If you're interested you can google any of those companies so that you can see for yourself who funds them. In-Q-Tel is a bit of an eye opener when you see who started them.
Takes tin foil hat off
So this luddite will remain weary of the joined up internet and let you more adventurous web travellers lead the way. ;)
As for when you say DJ, I have a mental image of Saturday night discos and asking for some rock, only to get Kiss' Crazy Nights played at me. Rock and $%ing roll.
