Finished uni!
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:42:09 PM »
Back in the real world now *shudders* :o I'm just waiting on my results.

I'm updating my CV and preparing for job hunting!  I'm compiling a list of everywhere I'd like to apply to within 100 miles (whether they are recruiting or not) and I'm going to snail mail my CV and a covering letter to all of them. Quite frankly I'd be willing to work as voluntary staff (not my first choice, though :P) and get a part time shelf packer or whatever job to pay the bills.

Any job hunting tips are welcomed! :D

Leave no one standing, as such but you're already doing that. With a little luck, there'll always be someone.

Good luck! :D

Well done.  What have you qualified in?

Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Cheers all!

Well done.  What have you qualified in?

Nothing yet. I should probably have made this thread after I got my results   there's no emoticon for shiteing yourself in anticipation :o The course is a BA(hons) in music with the main focus being on production.

Blimey, it's 26 years since I graduated, I can barely remember it.  Best of luck!  :D

I'm hardly in a position to give advice, but is "Letter+CV" still regarded as the best way to find work?  I'd have thought the process would've moved with the times a bit.

Sounds good, I'm about to finish as well. Just handed in my final year project yesterday and one more exam in around a week and a half. No job prospects yet though, the media industry is really hard to get into. Almost sort of going off the idea as everyone I've emailed about jobs etc seems quite rude/unwilling to help out even though they must know how hard it is to get in.

Yea, I'm guessing it's going to be a struggle. I'm building up an 'attack plan' for employers at the mo. I think they key is to be as flexible as poss. What course is it Tom? - something to do with media obviously.

It is tough but I wouldn't be too disheartened.  Often people don't mean to be rude but the hours are really long in a lot of media jobs so replies can be a bit brusque if they're rushed out at midnight between renders.  What sort of jobs are you guys trying to get first up?

Well, best case scenario would be working in a studio as a trainee engineer or teaboy, but as already said the competition is mad, so I'm staying open minded and flexible. Quite frankly anyway I could be involved in music would be a start. As I said It'll likely involve voluntary work to get some experience. I spent the last 10years working in a different career too, which doesn't help :p

haha yeah, it's Media Production. Probably quite useless in the grand scheme of things, but it's a BSc rather than BA so may look a bit better as we do the techy stuff as well as creative?

Andrew I don't really know what I want to get into, tbh I'll give anything a go if it means a foot in the door! I've applied for the runner positions at Dneg so many times but never seem to get even an interview or anything, quite disheartening :(
