Power Supplies (groan...)
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:24:35 PM »
... I know, I know - we've been here so many times before...

I've been using a 1Spot to power my Pedaltrain Junior, but I'm minded to switch to a more standard power supply.  However, I've never owned one and I'm astounded by the cost of some of them...

And recommendations for decent, reasonably proced power supplies that will fit in a PT Junior?

Ta.

I have no idea, but is there anything actually wrong with the 1 Spot?  Is it causing problems?

Check out the Rothwell Stompjuice - it's a fantastic little unit!

In fact, I have one around I don't use anymore since I've stopped using pedals, let me know if you'd be interested in it  :)

I've said it before, but the Johnny Shredfreak one is the bargain of the century at £11...

That Rothwell unit looks cool, but quite big - I think that I need something more along the lines of the Fuel Tank so that it fits under my Pedal Train, although I'd need to measure just to be sure...

PQ - no, nothing particularly wrong with the 1Spot.  It's just that I've found that the 1Spot can get damaged quire easily - the middle pin on the plug  is hanging on with superglue at the moment!!!

^ is that the same as the Diago unit, Dave?  Looks like it's the same design...

The stompjuice will not fit under the pedaltrain so you'll have to have it separate to the board which kind of defeats the point. I eventually bit the bullet and bought a voodolabs psu just because it fits under the board. Plus it allows me to run a trex 12v pedal as well as the bog standard 9v pedals. The stompjuice is now living in its box

The Johnny Shredfreak is the same as the Diago - except cheaper!  Very nice it is too.

After long years of trying and having issues with all kinds of power supplies, I finally got a Voodoolab PP2+. It hurts to spend 200 bucks on something that makes no sound, but since my tone has improved, my issues have disappeared. There was noise before that didn't really bug me, but I realised how much it was disturbing before, once it was gone with the PP2+

Reason I got it in the first place was that I had ground loops from non-isolated power supplies that powered pedals in front and in the loop of some amps, and those issues are gone. Also fits great under the pedal train2 with the supplied mounting thingies.

As said, 200 bucks is a pain, but there is a reason these boxes are on so many boards.

I heard that the BBE Supa Charger is isolated, too and supposed to be good quality.

I concur. I have two of the buggers and they're smashing.

I've got the Gator G bus 8.  Works great and has 8 x 9v and 3 x18v outputs.

£55 or £65 with the pedal board.  Does not come with a UK plug though!

I run a full daisy chain off mine and have had no issues whatsoever.

They're identical to the Diago, so you can see how much they're making can't you!

I recently bought a Diago supply; it fits under my Pedaltrain mini no problem.
It works great powering an OCD, Xotic EP Boost, Planet Waves Tuner and an MXR Carbon Copy. Only issue is when I put a DD3 and my new Zombietramp (Good pedal Juan, will post some clips of this soon) pedal in the daisy chain, you can hear a ground loop that gets too loud with gain.

Anyway, I've just ordered the Johnny Shredfreak one. I'll experiment with the two and compare them
