String saver saddles dont seem to be saving strings..

..I got some Graphtech string savers about a week or so ago, in that time I've allready gone through 2 D's! I thought these were meant to be the best saddles?!! I've checked it all and it seems smooth, and the strings dont go to the tailpiece at a very sharp angle.. What the hell?!

Yep! Right where they are meant to be saved from premature breakage

Should I start stringing it up the Zakk way? (strings over the top of the tailpiece)

11s in standard at the minute. I may go back down to 10s soon though, or d'addario 10.5s

Funnily enough, that's the one I break most often. I think it's a combination of my heavy and dynamic picking style (you need to play hard to get the right sound out of a plexi   ), and the fact that i love playing diads on the D and G strings  8)

Yeah you gotta play hard with the Mules to get their best tone  :D I dunno what the hell diads are though haha.

I think the breakage may just be the brand of string? I changed to GHS boomers when I first installed the saddles, I always used d'addario before but I just wanted to see if there was anything better..

Actually, odd though it seems, the only time I've broken bigger strings was when I used thicker guages....and really hammered them. I think thinner strings are supple enough to take it.

I find it odd that the saddles did nothing to ease your predicament, whereabouts along the string do you pick? Maybe that's something to do with it, did it happen when you used lighter guages?

Try d'addario 10's and don't go to Billy Joe Armstrong on them.

I dont really like 10s on a LP, they feel too floppy. Thats why I'm thinkin of tryin 10.5s, which seem perfect. I cant help hitting the strings hard though I just get into it, I snapped a pick playing the Heartbreaker solo the other week :o! Oh and I use Dunlop .96mm picks now which feel great. I pick around where the start of a middle pickup would be if I had one. If d'addario 10.5s dont work I think I'm gonna have to get used to 10s or something?

When I started playing guitar I used GHS strings, because a friend did, but I stopped, because I always broke strings. I never had a set get old before one of the strings snapped. Now I use anything but GHS. Obviously, they can't do that for everyone or no one would buy them, but that was my experience.

aha it seems GHS just suck for the majority of people then! I got a replacement .28 today, branded "picanto" so we'll see how that goes!

Picanto? Does that come with a sauce?

Hope they'll work.
