New wah pedal
« on: November 19, 2010, 02:03:08 PM »
Think my current Vox wah is nackered, keeps having intermittent feedback problems. Have tried to diagnose and failed so I think I'm just gonna give in and buy a new one. The "true bypass" (which clearly isn't) is actually pretty awful on it as well so I might as well make an upgrade.

Generally I like the sound of the Vox, it goes wah and that's all I need! Only things I would change if possible are that it could do with a bit of a volume boost (tends to dip a little I think) and also have more presence/cut - more midrange or something perhaps. Also there isn't a lot of definition or range in the lower travel of the pedal, it's only when you get about halfway up it starts to open up and properly wah. So I was looking at the new Vox V847 which apparently has a buffered bypass and also a standard 9v psu input. Anyone tried these and is the buffered bypass as good as or better than true bypass?

Have also been thinking about getting a BYOC kit to just drop into the old vox shell, do they sound good?

Hi Tom,

I checked out wahs a little while ago and bought the true bypass BBE wah, and very nice it is too.  Might be worth considering?

ooh forgot to mention price, probably not any more than £100 which is pushing it a bit! So the BBE is out I think. Looks nice though.

In this pricerange consider the Dunlop Crybaby Q Wah 95Q, the Morley Classic Wah and yes The Vox 847. I have the Vox and it's ok, but since I heard the Keeler Designs Stretch Wah, I'm saving for this baby.

Tom, I'm looking at the moment too - the Fender Fuzz Wah is on my tryout list.

Didn't realise Fender had one out, I'll give it a look. I don't really want anything fancy with a fuzz/boost etc on it though - just plain and simple always seems to work best for me.

indeed, go to www.wah-wah.co.uk, the best wahs you can buy - and they won't cost you £150.00 or anything like it.  Stuart will fit output buffers and such if you want them, drop him an email.

yep, but the OP has a Vox enclosure to re-use.

chances are, there is won't be much wrong with the pedal and it can be fixed and tweaked for around £50.00

Agh I can't decide which wah to get, each one I look at seems to have something wrong with it, or is too expensive  The BYOC seemed a good choice but have read a few bad reviews about them - would rather have something that just works first time rather than messing around tweaking! If the new V847 bypass was any good I'd probably just go for that, but I have read some reviews saying it isnt?!

area 51 do a wah drop in kit, think he calls it the italian wah. Gets good reviews and not to much tweaking if at all. I have a full tone standard and was thinking of one of their fully loaded wah's
