What about a combination of a Stockholm bridge and a humbucker in the neck?
I've got a all mahagony guitar and was thinking about putting a stockholm in the bridge so I can get a great rhythm sound; punchy riffs with massive low end and a humbucker in the neck position for some warm tones, with great sustain that don't sound harsh

Hmm, I think you might be underestimating the fatness of a hot P90 in the neck - it's a wicked sound that isn't harsh in any way!

Those sound clips sound pretty damn fantastic. I'll be whacking one of these things in the neck position of my Ibanez RG - Maple thru-neck, mahogany wings, rosewood fingerboard, a maple veneer and all through an Orange TH30. Should go really well with the Nailbomb I have in the bridge. With any luck I'll have it in there in time for the next gig

Sorry to do a brief 'mini-hijack' of the thread , but what guitars did you record those lovely 'Manhattan' and 'Half Note' ( Jazz ) clips with Nolly ?   :)

The Manhattan and Half-Note clips were done in the same SG and LP Jr (respectively) as the other P90 and HSP90 clips :)

So all P90 (whatever size) clips were on either a LP Junior or SG ?

While we're at it, were the Riff Raff clip done on a SG ?

Yep, all P90 and HSP90 clips were done in those guitars.
The Riff Raff clips were done with a Les Paul in order to make them directly comparable with the other humbuckers' soundbites.

Duh... Ok, this makes perfect sense, but I can't help feelin a bit disappointed as the Riff Raff is clearly the most recommanded set for SGs.

But anyway - thanks for the infos (and the fine soundclips) 8)

Thanks Nolly !  :D

My admiration of these pickups goes from strength to strength, knowing that they coaxed some 'Golden Age' Jazz tones from solid bodied guitars of relatively basic structure - as adeptly as in a fully hollow  'Archtop'.

Credit must also be given to your playing of course ;    lovely tones and playing  !  8)

Why thank you! As you rightly say though, the pickups are the star of the show here.

Greetings guys.

I have an Ibanez RG Prestige hardtail. It's made of basswood but surprisingly, the natural tone favors the low end ever so slightly. I currently have a set of Nailbombs in there and even with the BKP 550k custom audio taper pot, the tone is dark (not muddy though). I'll be transferring the 'Bombs into another Ibanez Prestige I have lying around.

I am heavily influenced by Muse and I play mostly heavier styles of alternative rock. However, I would also like the option of having classic rock, blues rock and pop tones at my disposal. Seeing as the Stockholms and Supermassives are both named after trademark Muse tracks, I'm wondering which would suit me more (assuming the BKP team are willing to make a HSP-90 Supermassive). These will go into the aforementioned Ibanez hardtail with the BKP 550k pot.

Thank you very much in advance for your opinions! :)

I'd like to up. this thread as I'm also a big fan of Muse, and I'd like to know if a Stockholm set of pickups would deliver a good tone for this music, and other kinds of  rock.

I play on a Hagstrom Ultraswede.
Therefore, I'd like to know if there's no problem wiring them on a single volume/single tone guitar.

Thanks !

Loïc

I think there is a thread on here where someone mentioned that the Supermassives can be made humbucker sized. Personally I liked the sound of the Supermassives better than the Stockholms based on their "progressive" soundclips, it just seemed to have better presence and definition. So that would do the Muse sounds incredibly well, and could cover those other styles you mentioned as well I think. Nolly would be the best to give you the final word on those pickups, however, he's the one who recorded the soundclips I think.

The Stockholm is a versatile pickup, but it is certainly more contemporary sounding than the Supermassive. I imagine you would both be happy with either.
Loic, there would be no issues wiring it for a single volume/single tone layout.
