Humbucker sized Pig 90 with ceramic magnets
« on: January 08, 2011, 11:42:55 AM »
Could this be made. I listened to the Pig90 today and was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!
This pickup is voiced perfectly for my liking. I've never heard a clip that good before.

Thing is that i hate the normal alnico warpig because it has no spank at all.
The ceramic is close, but it has too much bottom end for my liking still, and not enough spank yet :P

The thing is. Could it be possible to make a Humbucker sized Ceramic Pig90 for my v?

In my mind right now this would be more than awesome! That voicing has taken me by storm

Yep, that can be done, and it would be an absolutely brutal pickup!

What was your experience with it?

Do you sometimes play technical death stuff like hate eternal/suffocation etc. Is there enough definition and "oomph" in the palm mutes to drive that kinda stuff?

I haven't experienced a ceramic version, nor humbucker-sized, but the latter shouldn't make much noticeable difference.
The AV 'Pig was absolutely massive - "throaty" is the word that comes to mind. You do get a nice amount of low end detail with a single coil, but the ceramic magnet would definitely be a good call if you're playing at very fast tempos.
I do play DM from time to time, but I can't remember if I did so when we did the clips. The 'Pig 90 can certainly cover the same ground as the Warpig though, so if you want that level of saturation and aggression but with some P90 midrange character then it seems like it'd be perfect for you.

That is exactly what i want. I always liked the spank from single coil humbuckers. But they always lacked the gain and bottom end from humbuckers.

I wrote a mail to bkp about having this pickup made. Now i just cross my fingers :D
Wish me luck.

And thank you Nolly. you're amazing as always.

I was just thinking the other day that a ceramic Pig90 might be great (a long way from my next BKPs, having just bought my Miracle Men, but thinking P90s might be in order some time). Keep us posted.
