Hi there and happy new year ;)

So well, Santa came a bit late but I won't hold it against him: look what I found in my shoes:

1980 Gibby SG standard, not stock (but that's ok), well used (needs a refret but that's still ok, got it a bit cheaper because of this so I can afford the refret job) but not abused, and really good sounding - punchy, nervous, lotta growl on power chords, singing leads with notes that bloom while sustaining. Swapped my (recently BKP'ed, duh) Vox Standard 25 and a few more bucks for it and I don't regret it, it's really the "missing link" - between the Vox Custom 24 and the Tele - I was looking for. Been trying a few SGs (new and used) recently and this one is amongst the best I've played - the only one that was clearly better was a €2500 custom shop model.

Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Very nice.  The more I look at SGs the more I like 'em.

Thanks everyone 8)

Yeah, it looks cool (the pic don't do it justice) and sounds cool too - definitly have this SG Mojo factor, which most recent SGs I tried were lacking.

And it will be even better with new frets and the proper BKP set

@Philly Q: yeps, that's the one. My luthier advised me to get it despite the needed refret job, and I have good reasons to trust him.

Nice guitar.  The pickup selector position always seemed a bit awkward to me, but I know they can sound good and play well (I used to sell them back in the 70's).
So many pickups, so little time

As far as I'm concerned, I find the selector less annoying in this somewhat unusual position - it doesn't stand in the way when I'm reaching for the bridge volume pot, which is the control I use the most on a guitar ;)
