I'm a big fan of the HDs and the Black Dogs. Best HBs from bkp i've used so far.
The HD is more progressive sounding though and can do modern metal no prob, but the Black Dog has less 'push'.
That depends on the type of metal... I'm getting a great Alice In Chains thing with the Black Dogs for example (although the HD is THE Jerry Cantrell pickup..).
I really don't know if the BD will do a better Opeth sound than the HD...
nice to hear that :D
I ordered a Black Dog to replace an Aftermath that's currently paired with a Mule in my '73 Gibson LP Custom
the same guitar also had Cold Sweats, Nailbombs and MCP Afwayu/2nd Degree Black Belt, which is Jerry's current pickups (the BKP's still kicked their asses, though)
I absolutely loved the Holy Diver I had in my early 90's Hurricane jap Les Paul copy
it gets much closer to Jerry's tones than the JB and Afwayu (which is a great pickup, but way too bass heavy and metal sounding)
if the Black Dog gives me the Holy Diver thickness but with my Riff Raff openness, I guess my search will be over
I loved the Nailbombs, Cold Sweats and the Aftermath, but they were getting too aggressive for my band, which is quite heavy, but I use a lot of semi-clean stuff through high gain amps (I never switch to actual clean channels)
