New Wah incoming ... (Clips added)
« on: March 12, 2011, 12:03:24 PM »
After many many years I sold my RMC3. I just got tired of its Versatility and the fact that you had to open it every time you wanted to change settings. Also I thought it was never 100% right.  It sold really quick on the bay.

Ordered a MXR 404 / Bradshaw Wah. It ain't cheap, but it's pretty much what I got for the RMC, so one out, one in. It's got the two different Fasels to switch (sidekick on the right) and a switchable boost (sidekick on the left) - that's it. And from what I hear it sounds great and is very versatile with the two inductors to chose from. And I love its looks too.

I'll report back when I have it next week.

interesting. I've been thinking about a wah for a while... loved your clips of the rmc3 (at least i think they were yours, stripey socks?), plus i think the newer ones have all the knobs on the outside.

Was also kinda considering the cae one, though I'd probably cough up the extra for the rmc if it's better...

Yeah the stripey socks one was me.

I think the RMC3 had a bit too many options for my taste. It wasn't like the poti ranges were in a way that there was no bad sound. It was pretty hard to dial in right. And I think on a wah, that's what it's gotta be: just right. The amount of options on the CAE one seem just right to me, too.

So I will report and give my subjective 2 cent as RMC<>CAE comparison, once it's there. Probably some vid as well  8)

Looks cool, if it sound as good as it looks, it's a winner!

+1

It certainly looks the business as far as I'm concerned

I'm with you on the "too many otions" and it has to be "right". Wah is one of the few "guitar effects" I've been interested in over the years. I've got an old Cry Baby knocking around somewhere that did hundreds of gigs, that was "the" sound I wanted, if a bit noisy - not sure if it still works. I've fiddled with Wah a bit over the last few years on my Line6 XTLive and my Vox Tonelab. The Wah on the Tonelab just doesn't work for me... the XT's does, but there's just so much different flavours to choose from (and I rarely actually plug into the XT anymore because I don't like the amp modelling so much).

Good luck with this one, hope it's the one! :D

i tried the CAE wah along with 6-7 others in a shop on a quiet afternoon last month. It was by far the best in my opinion for a general wah for clean and dirty tones.

yeah, i know what you mean about options. On the one hand it's nice to have them and you can feel a bit short-changed if you don't get them and pay a lot, but on the other often it can make it much harder to dial in, and in some cases the options are there because it doesn't sound right out of the box

Looking forward to the clips and review :)

Heard some YT-clips and they were impressive. Considered all the options, it's not overpriced at all, I think. I would definitely look at this one when I would need another wah, or at the Keeler Stretch Wah, which is quite impressive too.

Bradshaw Wah arrived today, it's a total Charlie Sheen affair (Bi-Winning) LOL

My favourite is surely the red fasel with a good boost dialed in, makes leads really sing and the sustain hangs on your fingers like crazy, making drips into overtones a breeze. It's "just right" as I have hoped.

The yellow fasel is a great variation for rhythm chakka chakka à la Page on Song Remains The Same - thinner and more trebly, with a very nice pronounciation in the upper mids.

It is also very low noise compared to the RMC, not as picky with power supply and stuff. I guess it's also pricey partly because the boost in it is very high quality. Doesn't thin out on the gain but makes it thick and broad. Best wah I ever had hands down!

Great clips, Hunter. The wah sounds superb. Can you make a clean clip with your Tokai strat? Maybe something mellow and something funky... I would love to hear that!  :D

sweet, that sounds pretty awesome so far (only halfway through the first clip).

Of course this makes my decision way harder  And I have enough problems making up my mind at the best of times

EDIT: yeah those clips are frickin' great, thanks very much for posting them. For once someone actually does wah clips with the type of playing I'd use. :D
