It would be great if there was some way you could turn the guitar building into (more of) a full time job.

Hi Wez,  I hope you get something lined up soon.  It sounds like this has been taking a lot out of you and if you think that the stuff is getting personal too, then getting out of it might be the right thing.  Could you go back to your other job (even if it's just as an interim thing to tide you over)?  

Anyway, have a few pints at the beer fest for me.  One day I'll have to come over when I don't have to drive and we can have several pints at the pub we were at with all the ale in barrels in the living room!

Don't be silly - he has a wife to support and a mortgage (not advisable if you are a luthier)

yeah, unfortunately jonathan is correct... not unfortunate that i have a wife and house, but unfortunate that going into building guitars full time is not a realistic option - thats one of the reasons i finally decided to do something about my career in the first place - just turns out this wasnt it!

my wife is being supportive - turns out she was quite worried about me the last few weeks and since she just got a promotion we know we could survive just on her wages - not sure she would be happy about me being a house husband though ;)

thanks everyone !   the new CV is written and already been sent off to a few officey type jobs - might be quite nice to get back to working in an office!  either way i think i would prefer a new path

in reality, the biggest loss will be the holidays

Very pleased for you Wez - there's not many things (in a professional working sense) than feeling like that. I actually like working in an office, I've had my ups and downs over the last few years and have thought about moving to a different industry altogether but each time have realised that I'm fairly good at what I do and that I have a family to support (with a mortgage) and I wouldn't be able to afford a move!

Well done - will be interested to hear what you end up doing!

damn it matt - that was my next move - gotta be less painful than the buggering i have had for the last month!


didnt make it to the beer festival tonight.  Chinese takeaway was late and we went to a local who had pretty good beer but insisted on playing white reggae for far too long so we headed back home to hit the sloe gin & vodka mixes

You did the right thing. Taking abuse is the start of a very dangerous cycle. Better to brave it out on your own then become a victim of some small minded butt-head's vitriol!
