Intonation

Hey boys, i found a screwdriver today and tried to intonate my V with the new strings on it.
It was not intonated for the tuning i used, and i could hear it horribly much when i tried to play stuff other than power chords :P

Well i started messing around and came to the conclusion that all my saddles should be rolled all the way back for better intonation. It was like 35-50 cents off on all the strings in the beginning, after i rolled them all back im like 10 cents off being intonated properly. What would be the next step to intonate the last 10 cents?
should i lower the strings? if i do that i'll start buzzing. and i dont like that at all.

I tune to b. its a standard 24 3/4 neck and i use ernie ball 12-56's.

Sounds like the guitar doesn't have enough range for the tuning /gauge of strings that you are using
You might need either a wider bridge or to actually move the bridge back to get the intonation right for the strings you are using

with lower tunings and fatter strings you need to move back more.  problem is that there isnt always room!

first thing is to check if you can flip the saddle around for more adjustment

what bridge does it have?

not all tune-o-matics are created equal and you may want to swap to one with a bit more adjustment

notice it is quite narrow with not much adjustment room and has a wire holding the saddles in place

the studs also vary - but its not usually a complicated swap from one to the other

Its a gibson flying v. 2009 model. I might try and reverse the bridge first.

not the whole bridge - have a look at the first bridge i posted above, notice the saddles face opposite directions.  depending which way they are facing on your bridge you can sometimes flip the saddle for a bit more room

lol i did not turn the stop piece :P i turned the bridge around so the springs are in the opposite direction.
it almost did the trick. im down to 5 cents. except my D(G) string which is a c--ky mofo and just wont intonate properly. Im going to order a new bridge :)

well went down to my friend luthier and he took a look at the v. He intonated it as good as he could. but the low b could not be intonated 100%. its 5 cents off.

well because i love the guitar that much, im going to buy a new bridge for it. This bridge should give even more resonance etc.

I wish they were more subtle with the huge white BABICZ branding as that bugs me.

if the tech did his best then the bridge is the way to go - you must REALLY like the guitar! :D
