If anyone needs me I'll be downstairs locking my credit card in a safe and throwing away the key.

Gibson need to take a leaf out of Fender's book. So far they're lighting fires to burn their own, but jumping in the fire instead.

Nice guitars. A sonic blue mustan for me, with a BD or a HD.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

i would be buying a mustang special if only they made it with a proper scale length!

love the 51 and even 72 (i.e. 51 but hollow with big pickup)

indeed - the right track but make some guitars in cool shapes that us proper sized fellas can play!  not every grunge guitarist is 5' nothing!  i.e.  i want a mustang special, its almost like exactly what i want from fender - apart from that little short neck!

I like all three, but especially the '51 (a two-tone sunburst would've been nice, but I'll settle for blonde).

Do we know where these are made?  Mexico I'm guessing?

Oh, no!  I love the look of the Tele headstock and the mix of Strat/Tele/Precision features.

I might be tempted to make one mod though, a covered bridge pickup would look more vintage.

the Mustang Special looks nice, but those Wide Range humbuckers are cr@p.

I don't think they are Wide Range pickups on that guitar, they're Fender Enforcer humbuckers (which may also be cr@p!  ) in WR style (but normal sized) covers.

I'll take that Mustang Special. I actually like the shorter scale C profile neck.

I would give the stock pickups a fair chance but I think I'd rather have more vintage correct wide range humbuckers in that.

I do really like those but I can't help but think that the Telemaster (or whatever Hobby Lobby insist you call it these days) is the best of the guitars that never were. That combination seems so right to me and I'm a bit surprised that Fender haven't mass produced them. Of those new models I think the Mustang and the '51 work best but the Mustang scale length would probably be a deal breaker for me. Again Fender really do seem to have their heads screwed on- trying something that respects their heritage, tries something a little different, will sell and is priced right.
