Each to their own chaps - it just didn't work out for me.  I've no regrets about selling it.  It helped me realise that I'm not into vintage guitars  :)

Me neither. I liked my '75 tele but that was probably due to it being put together the year I was born. It wasn't the easiest to play and was too thin sounding. My Baja beats it hands down.

I don't think I'll ever buy another vintage guitar - unless I had enough money to buy a really stand out original strat or tele.
I have only ever owned and still own one vintage guitar, the '64/'65 Epiphone Wilshire I acquired a while back. I bought that one because of a demo on Fretted Americana by He Who Philly Q Must Not Hear Named and I just loved the tone and the styling and I vowed if I found one at unacceptable price and it sounded as good as the one in the vid and I liked the feel I'd have it. I tried a couple of reissues which didn't do it for me but when I found an old one I got lucky - it's a belter. I didn't buy it because it's old, I bought it because it's a killer guitar.

I've often said, if I was ever going to collect vintage guitars it would be the "entry level" ones like Gibson Juniors, Specials, Melody Makers and the solidbody Epiphones - Coronets, Olympics, Crestwoods and Wilshires.  I just love their simplicity.

I've owned two - a '64 SG Special and a '65 Melody Maker.  I never really liked the SG but I love the Melody Maker to bits and it's going nowhere!  :D
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Really nice guitar collection. The blue tele particularly fills me with want.
Enjoy them all.
Although my humble collection wouldn't  impress anyone. I would struggle to sell any of them as I love them all.

That's the thing with guitars isn't it, they all have personalities you get attached to  8)

The SGR is my favorite as well. It must have been really difficult to narrow it done to these guitars, I imagine. I have only four, and am thinking of selling one, as I don't have enough to time to play them all, but cannot choose which one to sell.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

The SGR is a cracking guitar, super slick to play and it sounds proper SG-ish!

The SGR is indeed a desirable plank. Still left enough guitars to feed my positive jealousy.  :)
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

you've cleared out some great guitars over the last couple of years, but you've ended up with a very nice little collection there.  what about amps?  apart from the AFD and the XTC, what else do you still have?

yes, the '65 SG is now being cared for by me :)  and rather nice it is too.  it does indeed exude mojo, and sounds just like an SG should.  it took me a while to really get used to, but i can't imagine parting with it now!  especially when a new reissue costs more, and a fully original '65 would be about 6 times the price!

your Modern Eagle is the other one i love, when they first came out i immediately fell in love with that finish.  maybe someday...

Glad you're still enjoying it mate!  Amp wise I'm stripped down too:

Martamp 45/100 and matching 4x12 with Celestion Golds/G12H Heritage speakers
(used for YC/DC? gigs)

Bogner XTC Classic and 2x12 with Celestion Golds
(used for Jump The Shark gigs)

Marshall AFD100
(my home amp and backup to both of the others for gigging)

Dead simple!

For some reason I thought you didn't have any Martamp/MJW amps left. Looks like I was wrong!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Just got the one vintage-y one.  I'm really liking higher gain stuff at the mo (Bogner, AFD, Brow's Splawn etc) so if I wasn't in 'DC I probably wouldn't!

Yeah, the SCR went to someone who contacted you Paul but couldn't afford one at the time.  He was stoked to get one used  :)

I'd like to see pictures of those, even if they're just "in-progress"!  :)

Will the purpleheart retain its colour, I think I read it tends to go brown with age?

Found it on the internet, seems like he is pleased with the guitar  :D

A quote from what he said...

Have had a good noodle with the SCR this evening and I can honestly say it's quite probably the best guitar I've ever played - what a piece of craftmanship! I really can't fault it. This is definately a keeper
