The next guitar I'll buy will likely be a Music Man EVH - the necks are just SO nice on those.  Would be of more use to me in a HSS format though - would need to have it set up with coil tapped humbuckers, PRS style.

The AX40's play nice, but the licensed floyd is horrible.  Oh, and I prefer floating trems.

Is there such a model like I've described?  :?

Why not an Axis Super Sport rather than the Axis (EVH as was)?  Not HSS, but it has a five-way switch with the two humbuckers, and a non-locking trem (or hardtail option) rather than the Floyd.

for this specific guitar's use, it needs to have a floyd as it would be my only trem guitar.

oh, plus £1200+ is way more than I'd want to spend, maybe £800 tops in a few months.

wonder how easy you'd fit another pot in the cavity for coil splits  :)

Looks like there's probably room, but it might spoil the look a bit.

You could maybe get one of those special (John Petrucci style) 3-way switches to split both humbuckers in the middle position?  Still only gives you 3 options, but I think the middle position would be more useful than the standard both-humbuckers-in-parallel.

I had an Axis Sport for a while, the original type with an ash body and a scratchplate.

The workmanship was just flawless, better than any other guitar I've owned I think.  The way they do the maple-fretboard necks is amazing - basically slicing off the whole top of the neck, inserting the trussrod then gluing the board back on so the join is almost invisible.

The neck shaping and feel is great, I just wish they were a tiny bit chunkier - if I could get an Albert Lee with a "fat neck" option I'd be all over it.

that is exactly what I liked about the AX40 I played - quite a fat neck, but thin across the strings like a '67 SG (actually, come to think of it, the AX40's neck does remind me of the feel my old '67 SG jr had).

with my arthritis playing up (again), its probably a good idea to have a guitar that plays easy - my Les Paul and Tele are both guitars that I fight with to get them to sound the way they do, and I tend to like that in a guitar (suits my playing style and attack).

Yeah, I know what you mean - "narrow but deep", pretty much the exact opposite of "wide and thin" which so many modern guitars have.  

Music Man necks aren't very wide, I think they use 1-5/8" at the nut like a vintage Fender, which I quite like, I'd still prefer just a little more depth though.
