I need an aggressive Mule!

Like the subject states, need some meaner and higher output Mule sounding pickups, for a slightly bright Les Paul Custom.

What's you opinion, guys?

that's the abraxas

the diver sounds absolutely nothing like a mule

the black dog might work too
quite fat and smooth, with a darker top end

I don't find Emeralds, Black Dogs or Holy Divers to be "aggressive", just punchy.

The first thing I thought of reading the thread title was Riff Raffs.....

Abraxas indeed, sort of a hotrodded Mule.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I thought the Abraxas was a smoother sort of tone than the Mule, but I only played them quickly years ago through fairly quiet amps at Music Live, so my judgement may be a bit clouded! VHII seemed to have a similar vibe but with a bit more output and bite.

I also want the answer to this question, but from what I've heard the Abraxas are like hotrodded Mules.
On the same note do Mules sound muddy in the neck?

Alnico V mules maybe? Might be a no enough of what you want, but it should get you closer as well.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I don't think there is one, catch-all "answer". There are several PAF-style pickups in the range, which one is correct for you depends on your guitar and what you're after.

If looking for a hike in output I would have suggested looking at the Crawler - especially if your LP is a bit bright.

yes, i tend to agree twinfan. but on the other hand, higher output is mentioned.

i'm going to suggest the vh2s.. the crawler and emeralds are good, but for me don't have that aggressive attack.

Yep, I agree gwEm - VHIIs would give that 'snap' along with higher output  :)

for aggressive Mules you want an Abraxas - they are fat, but have no shortage of grunt if you want it.
