Need help to stop me gas'ing!
« on: June 03, 2011, 04:52:04 PM »
I did a very silly thing this morning & dropped into Dawsons in Leeds as I had time to kill before a meeting...big mistake! I noticed a black Gibson 60's tribute on the wall...I was shocked how good it sounded. The pickups in it aren't too bad at all, the body is as light as anything & it played well, even with 9's on. IT sounded that good I nearly thought f*&k it & bought it, good job I didn't as the missus would have killed me, but BOY! That was one of the best playing gibson's I've ever come across

To be a bit harsh on Gibson, I always thought they used chambering because they had poor quality, badly dried, over-heavy stocks of mahogany - so you'd still end up with a heavy guitar.

But I was looking at the Guitar Village website last night and comparing the (chambered) Les Paul Standard 08 models with (solid) Les Paul Traditionals.  The Traditionals are all 8.5 pounds or more, whereas some of the Standard 08s were just a little over 7 pounds - I never realised you could get a Gibson LP that light!  And (only judging by photos) it looks like they're using better mahogany than they were a few years ago - or at least matching it much better in the multi-piece bodies.

(And oh yes, buy it!  :D )

Not really the most sensible of places to come to help stop the gas. The person you should talk to is your missis.
I have to admit I'm pretty lucky in the finacee department. She doesn't care what I buy as long as I don't put it on credit.
