Feline Hybrid Custom - update (pic heavy)
« on: June 04, 2011, 11:34:35 PM »
Hey guys, just got some updated pics of the guitar Jonathan (Feline Guitars) is building me - thought I would share.

Here's the spec:

Korina Jaguar style body
25" (PRS scale) maple neck with asymmetric cut (slighter heavier on the bass side)
Bolt on neck with all access heel contour
Compound radius ebony fretboard (10" - 16")
Firebird style reverse headstock
Earvana nut
Steinberger 'banjo' tuners
22 stainless steel frets
Maestro/Lyre/Vibrola/whateverelseit'scalled tailpiece
Graphtech Ghost bridge with MIDI Hexpander (for synth control as I'm not very good at keyboard)
Custom 12 pole Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell Bridge Pickup wired to switch between Series/Parallel
TV Jones Magna'tron Neck Pickup
Additional 'Lead' circuit
Strat style input jack
Going to be finished in a metallic teal

It's an amalgamation of my favourite guitars with a couple of nods to other aspects that I quite admire; like the strat jack and the added pickup ring round the bridge pickup to create a pseudo-rickenbacker 4000 series bass look.

Anyway here's the build in progress pics, enjoy:

It's almost done I'm just waiting on the paint and I think he said there was still a switch to be put in, so excited  :D

Interesting. Gibson meets Fender in a Jazzbird/Firemaster. I like this one.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Niiiice...personally I'd have gone for a single bridge humbucker, that would have been cool, but horses for courses :)

Congrats mate, it's looking ace

That looks great. I saw some of the parts individually when I was down at Feline with my Jazzmaster/Tele/Strat/Gretsch project and I thought at the time that the Firebird headstock plus Jazzmaster body was a stroke of genius which I 'm utterly convinced of now I see it all together. Very cool indeed.

Very nice combinations of features indeed. Right from the first set of photos (without any hardware), I already thought it seemed like a "super" guitar, taking bits of design from different stock guitars and recombining them in a whole that seem to me to make more aesthetic sense than the guitars they have been taken from. Seems like loads of thoughts have gone in this design. Gorgeous beast. If it plays and sounds as well as it looks, that will be a holy grail of a guitar.

Very interesting combination of features!  To be picky, I'm not crazy about the layout of the controls and the Strat jack socket.... but it's not my guitar!

The colour choice sounds cool, looking forward to seeing that.

Have you had a Maestro trem before, or is it more of an aesthetic choice?  I've never tried one, but I do think they look funky - I've been thinking about putting one on a Junior just for fun, should be fairly easy to fit.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I rather liked  the idea of 3 controls in a row - like on a Thunderbird bass, but I do like the strat jack.
But it is Martyn's guitar and we've built it his way and it works well
Someone said it was like a polar opposite of the guitar used by the band Feeder

I'm personally not a fan of all the Jag/Jazzmaster stlye switching and the way it has to be arranged  under the pickguard
however I think I would like to make a simpler 2 humbucker version - would be so much easier to do
