Blue strats?
« on: June 10, 2011, 04:33:01 AM »
hey guys.

a happy experiment of mine just went really well. i have a strat. sort of. built out of a peavey neck and a cheapo adler jay turser body.... the thing is, it sounds GREAT

(here's me having fun on the cheap chinese made stock pickups through amplitube(WMV video) )

currently, as it's a cheap guitar, i don't think it's worth investing for BKP. and also it's going to be a working guitar so i'm probably going to use this as an excuse to try the new paul gilbert injectors.

but the thing is, i want to change the pickguard. i'll also put a new overlay on the headstock. the zebra doesn't fit anymore...

i'm thinking of a few schemes.

tortoise shell pickguard. white pickups and knobs
aged pearl pickguard. black pickups and knobs
aged pearl, red pickups and knobs and matching union jack headstock overlay(see my strap)
black pearl pickguard with white pickups and knobs

help? i wasn't expecting this experiment to work so well!

Yeah, nice playing indeed. I like option 1-tortoise 'guard & white pickups and knobs.

Cheap strats are so much fun to be had.

Maybe if you think new BKPs are too much money for that guitar, could you find some used ones on ebay or something? I searched the "Seconds out" subforum for you but found nothing recent.

I'm on a day off today so i'll do a few mockups. but i've seen alot of pictures with tortoise/white, but gold hardware.

and as this is going to be a guitar i'll teach with, another important point is that i want noiseless pickups.

also thanks!

okay. here are the mockups!

i have no preference currently XD

3 looks classy as hell. the pickguard will also be aged pearloid.. quite fitting

also thanks for the comments on the playing! i don't like my note choices too much and my phrasing needs alot of work, but the chops are there.

tortoise and white is also such a classic. i mean, if I'm going to go for a cheap strat knockoff, may as well do it with style!

i can also overlay anything on the headstock. i'm thinking black with maybe a clever brand name XD.
