Clean, dirty, filthy sound clips
« on: August 03, 2011, 08:47:25 PM »
Somewhere on the interwebs I found clips of the the Apache, IT, MM (I think that was the set) and the file names had clean, dirty, filthy attached. But now I cannot find them again on the web.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'd love to find them again for one last listening test before I order.

Nope, but the IT is filthiest of the three, but I guess the description was not referring to that.  :)
Maybe it's good to explain what tone you're after and in which guitar they'll be installed.
I have both MM's and IT's in HSS-superstrats (Fender American Series and MXG custom swampashstrat, made by Patrick Eggle). MM's: real early sixties tones, woody, quacky, lots of chime. Neckpickup is too die for.
IT's: Rory, gritty, smokey, fatter than MM's, great sparkle though, especially when you roll the vol.knob a tad back.
Both handle gain very well.

Thanks telerocker and thanks for the input and offer to offer more advice. Although we are pretty much past the advice stage and in the final decision phase. It's almost down to flip a coin time.

The choice is down to MMs with bridge baseplate or straight IT's.

The guitar is a pretty standard Partocaster. Swamp Ash/Maple body, Maple/Rosewood neck, SSS Route, reverse slant bridge, and will be standard modern wiring with treble bleed circuit.

He plays through a Fender Blues Jr and an Ibanez T9 Tube Screamer.

My player likes the sound of Frusciante, Hendrix and Mayer. Apparently especially Mayer for playing and sound. He listened to a bunch of Rory Gallagher clips last night but only wrote that they were "Awesome" and I don't know if he was talking sound or playing or both. I'll get his clarification tomorrow. My homework tonight is to find more John Mayer clips to listen to.

We were 90% set on MM as recommended by Ben a BKP. But we just can't seem to take IT's off the table.

We are going to get together tomorrow (Thursday) to do one last listening test with my computer hooked up to my home stereo. That's why I'm trying to get my hands on those clips again. I thought maybe I got them from the Peerless Tone site or at least the link to them was there, but I can't seem to find them there either. Maybe it was another dealer.

They were great clips all done in a similar manner to the clips on the BKP site. Each PU was played in all five positions and were split into files called Clean, Dirty, Filthy.

Frusciante, Mayer, yeah: MM's or 63 Pat Pend . But: I would strongly recommend an Apache for the bridge. Don't let the relatively low output fool you, it has some much beef and roundness that it will make your strat sound fat and it works great with the middlepickup (MM or whatsoever). Tim (at BKP) uses this set in his strat too!!!

We decided on a straight set of MM's with a baseplate on the bridge. They are going into a Strat style body with a reverse slant on the bridge rout. Super excited to hear how they sound but while the PU's are due any day now, other components will put completing the build out a couple more weeks.
