Kit you've rediscovered?
« on: October 26, 2011, 12:58:36 AM »
In opposition to the regrets thread I pose the question, what in your arsenal has lain dormant for a length of time that you've found renewed love for?

In my case it's my H&K Tubeman. It's been gathering dust for about 5 years, but when I went to use my main amp the other day to try my new soundhole pickup it had died (it's a Bugera, laff it up why don't ya) so I hauled it out of the ashes and subsequently realised what a major piece of kit it is. Three channels, sparkly clean, tight crunch and fat overdrive. Loving it at the moment. Don't encourage me or I'll post a clip.

I always liked the H&K half rack units and preamp thingies. You should post a clip!

My all-time great rediscovery was my Rockman compressor, languishing in a cardboard box back at my dad's house. I bought it new in about 1988 then used it for a while and forgot about it but it's a superb piece of kit, especially for someone like me who plays clean stratty stuff 90% of the time.

By the way Frank, you ever thought of getting a Strat?

I've thought of buying more strats, does that count?

Someone told me there are other guitar manufacturers than just Fender, I assumed he was lying to me.

Nice line up, Tele looks sweet too.

Anyway I've already managed to derail my own thread. I'm sure at some time you guys have spotted that old 59er or Dumble you've forgotten about plugged it in again and thought, mmm not too bad.

I rediscovered my Strat. It's had many pickup changes and even a different neck at one point but I've got it to it's former glory. I had the Strat's frets dressed and a had a good set up and recently fitted SD Alnico Pro II pickups. It's awesome and I love playing it again.

Funny that... I've just fitted a neck Trilogy and feel exactly the same. Good times. PDT_003

All of it.  Everything.

Last one (it's a perennial favourite, actually) is my Orange.  I can put it away for months at a time, then decide it's time to sell it, plug in to make sure that it's all ok, then play nothing but that solidly for a month!

Same with guitars - Tele into Engater Renegade, and that's all I'll play for months.  But then I'll get tired of the sound and back to my Yam SG, and the tele will set gathering dusk.

I guess I'm quite fickle.

BKPs Past and Present - Nailbombs, Mules, Blackguard Flat 50's, VHII's & Trilogy Suite with Neck & Bridge Baseplates!

That would be my Dunlop Zakk Wylde Wah.
I had it as a backup pedal mostly for the Dunlop Dimebag Wah (Cowboy from Hell or whatever they call it).

I bought a Morley George Lynch, a Slash Wah, then brought back the Dimebag Wah to my home pedal board, just to discover that the Zakk Wah with its simplicity is the one I enjoy the most.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

I recently rediscovered my Tele...as a gigging guitar. I'd played it at home often enough but only for practice/writing. Then I restrung it and played it through an amp and loved it. I took it to a gig  and used it all night. For the last 4 gigs I have used it exclusively. I had a recording session a few weeks back and took it and my Gibson. I did use the Gibson but the Tele was used more.

The love continues- I think I am going to be giving it a hammering for a while yet.

I also rediscovered a T-Rex trem pedal that I impulse bought a few years back. Lovely buttery tone!
Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance
BKP's: Apache, Country Boy, Slowhands.

Here's a weird one, I dug out my old dusty Roland VG-8 guitar system last night. As a "straight" guitar effects unit it's pretty terrible, too dated and synthetic sounding but the one thing it does that no other system can match is the polyphonic pitch shift. Stick an expression pedal on it, spend some time noodling with the edit screens and whack it through a Line6 Pod to make it sound vaguely like a real guitar and you get instant open D to open G shifting. I might turn this into a real tune some day. Or I might forget about it entirely.
