Peavey Reactor Telecasters.. Any good?
« on: November 03, 2011, 09:32:14 AM »
Hi all. I've gotten a fairly good offer for one of these:

It's cheap, and it's US made. According to Harmony Central it's very good. So yeah, it seems legit.
Do any of you lot have any experience with these things? Truth be told, I trust you guys a whole bunch more than most people, so let me know if have any experience.

Never heard of this Peavey model before, but I have a "cheapo" Peavey Zodiac bass (very JB-inspired), and while not pretending to be compete with a good true JB it's still amazing for the money - decent wood, half-decent hardware (which is already more than what you'd expect here), clean finish, very playable and well, on the right amp it really delivers the good rock tones.  Pickups/pots set apart, it's not far behind my son's MiM PB (and that one had it's pup swapped for some SD).
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

What I remember from guitarmagazines (like the Teleshoot-out from Guitarplayer somewhere in the nineties) is that they are good for the price. Only the hardware got some critizism, but easy to upgrade with some good used parts.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Might be tricky to replace the bridge though - it doesn't look like the mounting screws match the Fender pattern.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

From the screw pattern, it actually looks like it matches a Gotoh Tele Bridge assembly I have lying around. Should be interesting!

Jerry Donahue often uses one, if it's good enough for him.....

The one Donahue uses is a Peavey Omniac JD and it's very good but it's not the same guitar (hardware, wiring etc)..I don't know anything about the Reactor,though...Sorry.

Well, in any case I'm gonna have to give it a spin :)

It's just that Andrew W has all of a sudden put his absurdly sexy Telemaster up for sale on the forums here, so now I'm more than a bit torn!!

Well, the baseplate would hide most of the damage..... but I still favour a direct replacement if possible.  Keep it simple!

it would almost be a sin to pass it up at £150 - someone buy it.

I PM'd the minute I saw it

But understandably he'd rather sell to someone who can pick up the guitar in person, since getting stuff like that shipped is always a $%&#ing hassle, especially to somewhere like Denmark.

As for the tele here, I figured I'd put the humbucker tailpiece I have on it (now that we're dremeling happily away anyway ) or maybe try out a set of  Piledrivers on it.
