ground wiring question
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:05:20 PM »
hey guys my order is still processing but i have a quick question.  My blackouts were installed in emg wiring.  So i assumer because they were active that the pickups were not grounded.  I pulled out all the electronics and switches and the only thing that was left was a mysterious wire coming out of the body that was heat wrapped at the end so no wire was visible, it was a black wire.  Is this the what needs to be ground to the volume pot or do i need to get a seperate wire to do that?

Yeah, if it looks like it's coming from the direction of the bridge, it's a ground wire.

Nice bit of forethought from the guitar manufacturer.  :)

This wire is almost certainly connected to your bridge. If you have a digital multimeter you can check whether there is continuity between this wire and the bridge (or tailpiece). If so, this wire should be connected to ground, which can be the back of a pot or any other convenient grounding point. This connection is not needed for EMGs, that is why it was taped. Good thing the tech who installed the actives left it in for future use.

LTD/ESP when fitting active pups don't neccessarily connect up the bridge ground (it's usually not needed). However the lead is usually still there. Which is nice. But that's what it is.
