22 guage awg wire? shielded or not?

hey gusy im buying some new wiring to complete the job on my new pickups and i was wondering if 22 gauge awg wire would do the trick?  Does it need to be shielded or not? I have been reading that one of the wires needs to be that connects to the output jack.  Is that correct?

Hi,

None of the wires in guitar electronics "need" to be shielded. You can use shielded wire - that may make the guitar quieter. 22 AWG stranded wire should work fine - there is no specific need for current handling as no significant currents flow through the guitar.

i always use shielded coax for the wiring from the pot & ground to the output jack and ground on there.

Really helps if you are in noisy electrical environments i find.

I would always go on the side of shielded if you like to play with high gain. It can amplify the sound of electronics when you're not grounded otherwise. I had a problem with this in my jackson before getting it sorted out.
