Can the Aftermath come in a standard covered humbucker design?

More so a question for anyone who might have inquired so I don't have to add to Tim or Ben's stack. Is this possible? If so, how drastically does it change tone over the standard two-row pole piece design? I know it sounds petty, but after playing a friend's aftermath I really want one, but the vain side in me would LOVE it to only have one row of pole pieces like a standard covered humbucker. Granted, I would never truly sacrifice tone for looks alone, but if it was feasible, why not try to eat my cake, too?

Yes - you'd just leave one set of poles flush with the bobbin and put the cover on top

Putting a cover on will change the tone a bit, not massively.  And generally BKP - as I understand it - compensate the wind slightly if a pickup's ordered with a cover.

Also, I'm sure you could order one with no cover and a row of slug poles rather than two rows of screws, if you wanted a conventional open humbucker look.  Again there'd be a slight effect on tone - probably a bit more than the cover, if anything.  If I remember right, two rows of adjustable poles increases the bass response somewhat.

Thanks so much for the replies, guys! The more I think of it, Tim's pickups are made the way they are for a reason, so I shouldn't mess with a good thing just because I want it to look a specific way.

Will the aftermath play nice in American basswood with a maple cap? The aftermath I pkayed was in a mahogany/maple topped Esp eclipse II and it was the bee's knees. A lot of people recommend the painkiller for low-tuned, super tight metal stuff, but I loved the metallic, pissed off, urgent sound of the aftermath. And for my last bother, what would be a liquidy/open-top-end style compliment for the neck position? Sonething in the vein of an air norton style, perhaps.

I asked for that and they said it must have the double screw coils
you could order it uncovered, lower the screws of one of the bobbins and install a regular cover

What I don't get is why you wouldn't want two rows of bolts in there?! :)

I got a blackdog when I first got my WezV custom, and I remember asking if I could have that with two rows of allen bolts. Unfortunately the answer was no :( But it's okay I have an aftermath in there now anyway :)

I could have sworn people have had double screw coils on pickups which normally have slugs, and vice versa.  Of course it's a deviation from the original design, but I thought it was possible.  Maybe it depends on the particular model.

Regarding the slug/screw combinations: I asked for a double screw cold sweat a few years ago and Tim gladly made one for me. Then about a year ago I sent him an email asking how much bottom end the Holydiver has, compared to a double screw CS, and he said he wouldn't make a double screw CS because the extra screws would mess with the tone/bass response.  :P

I guess experience has taught him not to compromise the tone for the cosmetic preferences of the customer. I totally respect that, but now I keep wondering if I made a mistake by having him make me the double screw CS... maybe the regular one sounds even better...  PDT_022

This is my thought now, too. I shouldn't screw with a good recipe! What's the word with the Aftermath in basswood?
