I've never seen the appeal of super-hot pickups.

Would you class the BG-1400 as super hot Philly? IIRC the oputput of that when Dave measured it was something like 26k!

That's probably one of those misleading DC resistance figures, though - it's a stack, so the coils probably aren't wired in series, and it may be super-thin wire as well.

DiMarzio minibuckers used to have huge DC resistance figures but they're very low output.

(Actually I tried to order a BG-1400 from Feline once, but it never showed up.)

We had two of them on order with Duncan for over a year and they just never turned up no matter how often I nagged them - was frustrating as we both liked it after hearing it at the BKP jam that Gwem set up

I assumed that was what happened.  Wasn't blaming you, Jonathan!  :)

Just to clarify, my real objection isn't to humbuckers in teles. What bothers me is when people buy a Tele with a really sweet sounding bridge pickup and the classic bridge then rout a big hole in it, gut it and stick a super high output pickup in there. It just doesn't suit the look and feel of a tele to turn it into a drop-tuned baritone distortocaster, that's as bad as sticking a Kahler on a Les Paul.

What if you just build it that way, so it never had the classic bridge or sweet sounding bridge pickup in the first place?

(I suspect I know the answer!   But horses for courses, I wouldn't be fitting a super high output pickup anyway, probably more like a VHII...)

(Actually, I'd say ridiculously overwound single-coils are less "grown up" than moderate-output humbuckers.  I've never seen the appeal of super-hot pickups.)

you would like 'The Sinner' Philly.

A very familiar one.  I picked up Dave's Esquire on Saturday.

The switching on this is perfect, usable tones in every position, unlike other esquires.

I did adjust the neck as I like a little bit of relief, and was surprised that under the pickguard its routed for a neck pickup, and the adjustment screw is accessable without removing the neck.  Spot on for me now.

Lovely guitar goes great with amp and cab too

I can't see the pic, but is it your white Tele with the Gotoh bridge and.... Holydiver?

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm thinking of.

(Where the hell have you been, anyway? :P )

D'you think?  I've never really considered it, to be honest.

Whatever suits a person's application is right.

That said, the acoustic nature of Teles does suit lend itself to that brash obnoxiousness that those traditional bridge pickups do, but if someone makes it do the noise they want with non-traditional hardware then good for them.

1 = volume control only (bit of extra output and brightness)
2 = volume and tone controls
3 = volume and pre-set tone cap, like a c--ked wah tone
