well, one band mention (Rollins Band) have a huge blues influence.

Black Flag's My War has a clear Black Sabbath influence - there were quite a few punk bands that went doomy for a while.  Another band who I really loved with a Sabbath theme was Corrosion of Conformity - but before they learnt how to play and became a metal band (i.e. up to the Technocracy album).  Their version of Green Manalishi on Eye for an Eye ruled...

Shame I prefer them with Pep...

This was my first introduction to Green Manalishi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRW-qrEHZjE

Had no idea it was a Fleetwood Mac song at the time...

Yeah sludge is where you see the best of the punk and Sabbath influence together. Really I suppose it's pretty much Black Flag and Black Sabbath. COC, EYEHATEGOD, Neurosis, Crowbar, Iron Monkey, Acid Bath, Buzzov*enMelvins, Big Business, Mistress (well, it went from punkier to grindier over time), newer stuff like Torche, Kylesa and the ones that got all proggy like Isis, Cult of Luna and Pelican. Lots of great stuff.

And obviously the smash up of metal and punk gets you grindcore and black metal. Which are the bestest things evers.

My fave NYHC (well NJ) band was and remains  Adrenalin OD.....

Just thought you might like to know that  :?

I've not heard of that band before but I like it, just checked it out!

I think my fave NJ band would be a toss up between Fury Of Five and E Town.
I like Floorpunch though, and those 'shore style' bands around a number of years ago.
lots of cool jersey bands..two of my favorites are
25 ta life and lifetime
Mississippi Queen Set = Gibson SG Standard
Warpig = '88 Charvel Model 1

I forgot about lifetime. Kid Dynamite... that was a cool band.
I always thought 25 Ta Life were from NY. That said, I haven't actually listened to them much, on account of all the kind of crazy stories I hear about Rick Ta Life. Now there is a character!

I guess its a mix of NY and NJ..  Rick ta life was from NJ and sold all merchandise out of his house...still have an original 25 ta life windbreaker that i sport..
yeah he is a character...but also a very cool dude....

pretty much all those bands were cool back in the day.....the message was usually about friendship and loyalty....everyone looked out for each other...

There's a great bunch of people here and I've got loads from the forum. But... as a heads up it can be hard to join in with the in-crowd at times. That's part of why I don't really post here anymore. The other part, quite frankly, is there are a few evangelist, know it-alls that have to give a diatriabe in every thread

Yet... here I am lurking haha  8)

As far as the gear V's off-topic chat goes, the lack of really tech talk is one of it's stronger points haha

I'm going to do what I always do on such threads, post a picture of a hot lady with a guitar to bring some perspective - too much perspective maybe...

bloody awful guitar, but who cares when she's holding it (ahem) - cue smutty response from Afghan Dave
