Guys, I've got a RWRP Trilogy, and I want to use it between two standard Nailbombs - would this work?  Would there be any effect at all?

In terms of phasing, RWRP  pickups are just the same as normal pickups. Reverse winding reverses the phase then the reverse polarity re-reverses it so it's just like adding any single-coil pickup to a HH guitar.

Yeah, I kinda get that - however, I've heard people mention that the combined tones can be quite difference (pos 2 & 4).

i heard this too.

i think (but only about 15% sure) the single will have to be NPRW (normal phase, reverse wound). Tim will know I'm sure.

Thanks, guys - I got this from Tim:

what you'll need to do is wire the NBs in reverse, ie red/screen to ground and black to hot.

... so I think that I can manage that.

Does anyone know how that will affect my options in terms of clever switching?  Ideally, I'd like to be able to split the NBs on a miniswitch.

Just splitting both at the same time, using the two sides of a single mini switch?

Switching red and black will govern which coil is switched off when split - green/white will be wired the same either way.

I think the "normal" BKP coil-split wiring with red as hot gives you the slug coil when split.  So with black as hot you'll get the screw coil.

I've heard banter about tonal differences on this too - one of the new BKP videos on youtube covers this.

Is it really a big deal?  OK, there's a subtle difference in positions 2 and 4 of a Strat set with an RW/RP middle.

But an HSH set?  It's not as if there's a "classic HSH positions 2 and 4 sound" we've all grown up hearing in our heads.

If they turn out to be out of phase, then swapping a couple of wires will fix it.  Beyond that, I defy anyone to notice anything "different" about the sound.

Sounds like a challenge, PQ!
