Where do I stand with this
« on: April 27, 2012, 09:20:15 PM »
Looking for some advice.

A couple of years ago I bought a Suhr Standard, awesome guitar but I was never 100% happy with the bridge pickup. Eventually I gave in a ordered a set of HD's to replace the Suhrs. I fitted them tonight but when I took out the Suhr pickups they were different to what was advertised and also what was on the spec sheet. They are supposed to be an Alrdich set but the bridge is an SSH+, the neck is indeed an Aldrich.

I am pissed because a) I went with the Aldrich's as being primarily a high gain abuser and them being Shur's highest output pickups I thought they would be most suitable. Maybe if the bridge had been an aldrich I would have liked it and not felt the need to spend £200 on the HD's and
b) I was part financing the HD's with the intention of selling the Suhr's on, as they are not a matched set I think I will struggle to sell them, especially the neck on it's own.

I fully appreciate the retailer had no real way of knowing this but I still feel like I've lost out twice here and also the guitar was not as advertised. What, if anything can I expect from the retailer ?

Thanks

Is the standard spec for Aldrich's?  If so, there's probably a disclaimer on Suhr's site somewhere saying they reserve the right to change specs at any time. I'm guessing they ran out of pickups and bunged something in to get it out of the door.

I'd contact the retailer and/or Suhr, and they may send you an Aldrich bridge.  I think if you get anything above nothing you'll do well to be honest  :(

Best of luck!  I think the elapsed time may be a problem, but who pulls the pickups unless they're swapping them?  You just assume the spec is right.

I believe Suhr are very good at customer service so hopefully they'll fire you a pickup  :)

That's a bummer :(

I'm with Dave, with the elapsed time, I'd be thinking I'd be lucky to get much joy...

BUT, if they're good with customer service, you never know. Depends how much they want a soured relationship. I think you've done the right thing, they won't know someone has an issue unless they're informed about it, and it gives them a chance to do something.

Good luck with it.

I'm pretty sure, Suhr will send you an Aldrich bridge PU, if the Guitar was bought new and the spec sheet says Aldrich.

If not, post the issue again on Hugeracksinc and I am sure John Suhr himself will take care and ensure you end up being happy.

pleased to say both the retailer (Peach) and Suhr did not hesitate in offering me a new Aldrich bridge. It should be here next week.

Cheers to both Johns

I am loving the HD's in the Suhr, they are a lot more in your face than the Nail Bombs in my PRS but they're still smooth, it's witchcraft. Big thanks to Tim and Ben for sorting these out for me.

Wow, that's very good of them after two years!

After-sale service in the boutique guitar world really is pretty fantastic, isn't it?

Cool.  There's lots of cr@p that we deal with on a day to day basis, but by and large I've always found guitar related issues to be solved amicably.

Actually, that's true for me as well... (I did harbour hopes for Dazza's situation, I was ready to join in with the consoling etc, but I half expected a happy ending)

... pity this amicable sh1t doesn't extend to musician to musician issues (bands etc), that always seems to be more fraught and typically ends in a pear-shaped fashion!
