Fitted my first Tremol-no at the weekend - it's great!
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:36:33 PM »
As I'm not much of a trem user, and I wanted my main working guitar to be as useful as possible, I fitted a Tremol-no to my blue PRS Signature yesterday.  I got the large clamp type, which is the one for the PRS trem, and it fits perfectly  :)  The hardest part of the install was getting a couple of trem springs out of the PRS block - they're a REALLY tight fit!  I found the best method was to bend the spring upwards slightly at the block with a small screwdriver, then use some chunky pliers and the "wiggle method"   A touch of WD-40 helped a lot too.  The block ended up a little scuffed afterwards, but that seems to be unavoidable.

If anyone is fitting one in the future I'd recommend watching the installation video on the Tremol-no site, as it covers all you need to know.  Be aware that you'll need to fiddle with your trem a bit afterwards to get it set up just right, but the results are definitely worth it.

I took it to rehearsal last night and used it all three ways - fully floating / dive only / fully locked - and it was great in action and I couldn't feel any difference in the trem action.  I spent plenty of time setting it up, and I think this is time well spent.  It's a top product, and I think it's altered the tone of the guitar a little too (for the better).  I always felt this guitar was lacking a bit of snap or twang to the attack, but it seems to have gained a bit more after fitting the Tremol-no, probably due to the extra solidity of the trem system now (even unlocked).  I guess that might not be good for some people/guitars, but in my case it's great.  Then again, I could be imagining it so who knows...

The only slight negative is that the clamping screws seemed to rattle loose really easily, but after reading around on the web this is a common thing that can be solved a few ways.  I seem to recall there was a o-ring in the spare parts bag which I think I need to fit on the screws to stop them working loose.  Doh.  I'll try that at the weekend and hopefully it'll cure the problem.

Overall?  I'm well happy with it and would recommend it  :)

i've got one in my Patrick Eggle L.A., it's a great little device.  the hardtail mode is fantastic.

i've been meaning to get around to putting them in my other vibrato guitars, but i'm a bit like Philly when it comes to getting things done :)

I was going to fit one on my PRS Studio but gave up after 15 minutes trying to get those f*****g PRS springs out. I have fitted Tremol-nos on a couple of other guitars and find they work very well. However I have also had the problem with the clamping screws falling out but the worst problem I have (very occassionally) had was the clamp on the tremblock has also worked loose and if you happen to be using it floating (with the main clamp screws undone) the whole operating arm/assembly can fall off onto the floor  :x

That sounds unlucky Tellboy  :o  If that happens to me, threadlock on the clamping screw should sort it!

I realised after removing the first trem spring that I only needed to remove one from the block, and it wasn't the one I'd just taken out   It was a tricky job but the WD-40 and hefty pliers certainly did the trick in the end  ;)

Ive been using a tremelno for over a year now and ill agree that the install was ridiculously easy.

My clamp had some dodgy threading on it so I emailed the tech support and they sent me out a replacement free of charge so im also happy with the customer support.

The only tonal change I got really was when its fully locked down I get a touch more sustain.

Glad you're liking it.

Oi, I heard that!

Sounds pretty good though.  I have read up about this and various similar devices in the past, but since nearly all my guitars have fixed bridges I'd forgotten about it.  So where did you buy it?

I bought mine from the US as it worked out around half price including shipping.

It seems the price different isn't so great now though
