Adding a Middle pickup to my Tele
« on: November 11, 2012, 03:25:03 PM »
So I've been thinking about routing out a chunk of wood from my Tele and adding a strat middle pickup.

I have the piledriver set in their currently, which pickup would be a good match, I'm guessing something fairly hot like the Irish tour middle pickup.  Also do I want it standard or RW/RP ?

If you want less hum RW/RP. An IT is a good pickup as a standalone middlepickup, but will be overpowered by the Piledriver of course.

Would the Piledrivers overpower it, if I was just using it for 2 & 4 positions and never by itself?

Is there a difference between middle and bridge pickups apart from the Dc resistance?

The bridge-IT is hotter then the middle-IT, as with every strat-set.
By overpowering I mean the Piledriver has (way) more output then the middle-IT. If you blend those two, the Piledriver will dominate.

That depends. If you want them to balance you need something a little hotter. You could mail the BKP-team for a recommendation.

Just got a reply from Ben @ BK and he recommended the Irish Tour middle.

Thought I'd update the thread, for anyone else searching something similar

Try to fiddle with the height to get the best balance. I hope you'll like the IT.
