« on: May 07, 2013, 09:48:26 PM »
I am excited. Going for week. Going to see a bunch of bands. It's all last minute. The closest I've been is Albany, for about an hour. Just letting you all know. ha!

I'm kind of tagging along with my friends trip and shes out there until the 28th, so I have no idea what I'll end up doing. Once I get there and get my head around travelling about I should be cool to go see stuff.

Remember to tell Homeland Security that you're in no mood to be putting up with any of their bullshiteeeee as you are busy and have lots to do...

They're good like that and very accomodating, just remember to look them square in the eye and make your point firmly, you'll get through on a nod....

 :?

Good luck with that and enjoy the trip. NY is great.

I do freak out a bit at that point. I tend to wear long sleeves and cover my tattoos and call everyone "sir". There are stamps in my passport that I need to explain creatively, so I don't mess about with border control.

Just tell them you've received guidance from "Afghan Dave" on gaining entry to the US & practiced responses to interrogation via an on-line forum... It's all good.

Your time in NYC should be the "bomb", and the experience totally "radicalised"... just remember to avoid using "key words" online as the NSA tend to be "extremists" and see "jihadists" everywhere....  :P

When I went to Forida I had to get interviewed on my own because I had a different surname to the rest of my group, it was pretty intense, I kind of felt guilty for no reason.

When I was going from Vancouver to Seattle my friends said to cover my tattoos because they have problems on the border sometimes. It's because of bike gangs runnings guns over the border so sometimes people in tatty clothes with tattoos get pulled up even if they have no association.

When I got to the border I had a sweater on to cover mine up, but then when I had to buy a visa I rolled up my sleeves. The one guy was staring at my arm and I suddenly realised I'd blown my cover as a non tattooed person! Then he said "is that Robert Johnson" and pointed to my tattoo. I said yes... then he was all like, "gotta love the blues, maaaaan!" and let me go right ahead.

I've been questioned for 8hrs once and 12hrs on another occassion.

My Dad's an American too and I've been visiting since I was ten... they took copies of my credit cards, dug out the history of everything and I sat and answered every question with a smile.

I haven't been back for years.. and I'm not looking forward to ever dealing with immigration again.

So sad, because I love that place.  :(

Imagine being Flemish and trying to get in! You'd be in Room 101 before you can say "slagroom"!

I walk past Webster Hall every day. If you are staying down there, you are either in NOHO or the East Village. Very much part of the NYU dorm neighbourhood.

Sure, just let me know. I pretty much run around Manhattan all day and make my own schedule, so I have a certain amount of flex.
