I couldn't agree more, they are superb whether you use them with a clean amp or to boost an already dirty amp! Congrats, especially on the small box version... had I not got a standard size clone I would have gotten one of those purely for the space saving.

You are here almost two years longer than me and don´t even have a Klone yet? I would say shame on you, but I pity you far too much to do that. I am really sorry for you.

GET ONE ALREADY!!!! YOU NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED IT!  :D

I have 3 'normal' Klones and one micro-Klone with true bypass - one for each of my pedalboards and one standalone.

They're THAT good.

Congrats!

I know this has probably been talked about endlessly, but what exactly do they do for you?

They're kind of a 'more' pedal. YouTube clips tend to not do them justice, but they're a faithful Klon Centaur clone. A decent Klon demo will give you an idea what they do.

I currently have boards to do a large one, and two the size of Marc's*. All would be buffered style rather than true bypass.

*the boards I have for the smalls are actually the tiny ones, but I ain't doing any more in those enclosures... Nice to build they are not.

I know nothing of "Klons", but I've just had a YouTube moment, and the do sound great.

Klons are/were mysterious pedals. Apparently you had to be vetted in order to go on the pretty long waiting list for one, and they were very expensive. When it arrived, the circuit was covered in resin to prevent copying. But there was rumours of amazing tone, perhaps the best overdrive pedal available.

Philking has a real one I tried once, and I GASsed for one immediately, but really expensive on eBay. Then Juan somehow got PCBs and the circuit for the Klon and tweaked it based a real Klon to sound just the same. And now if Juan has parts we can all buy a Klone!

Theres other pedals I like more for various specialised tasks, but the Klone is the only one that works very well in all situations - with every guitar and rig. Love mine.

I do wonder what the creator of the Klon thinks about the Klones. Its meant to be a completely original design from him. At the beginning, I guess the obscurity and underground hype meant he made some good coin from it. If Juan is able to get PCBs, then I guess others can do the same so there might be a few other makers doing them.. but Juan tuned his version A-B with an original, so I have a good feeling its the most accurate.

Would love to hear Juan's comments!

Yeah, the Klone really is a pedal that somehow works all the time. Basecally all settings have something about them that works in a way and they can be set to work with every amp and guitar I have ever tried them with, just like gwEm.
Mostly I do the "more" setting John recommended me and I love it. When I put that into a dirty amp it does just that, gives me more. More volume, more gain and mostly more of all that goodness.
The gain it produces has such a nice harmonical structure that it goes hand in hand nicely with the amps gain. Even if you turn off the gain completly you are still left with basecally a nice clean / treble boost.

Also it should be noted that the Klone is very transparent. With a TS type OD you always get mid humps and all that stuff, which can be great (I got one OD for that too, build by Toe Knee, also a great pedal for what it does), but it is not always and leaves its imprint upon the tone.

One way to put it is that the Klone does not do much to change your tone, it just picks out the best parts of it (whichever you want those to be) and multiplys them.

In the end it just sounds good and is so very usable. I use mine from fattening up cleans sounds to getting my blues on, getting the crunch going and pushing my amp into metal. It all works.

Plus John (Juansolo) is such a gent to deal with.

Interesting. I'm liking the sound of my amp, I hear the great potential, I just feel like it's missing a little something, maybe a little extra kick without taking it into another realm of genres with a pedal. I want to leave my settings on my amp the exact same, I just want a little more oomph. Is that pretty much the "more" setting?
