In all honesty, not understaing and being able to pronounce Siobahn correctly just shows up your own ignorance of the language variations of the UK.  ;)

How would you pronounce Niamh (another Irish name) indysmith?

And no, I'm not Irish.  :P

A teacher I know in Brighton has lots of kids in her class from estates. She always comes up with a few 'names' of her kids when i see her but the one that sticks in my head is a boy named 'Governor'. How can you call your kid that?!

i'll put you guys out of your misery.

neeve. EDIT: really irish people (i.e. people who live there with the accent and all) sometimes pronounce it ni-ave as well- say it quickly though, and it's neeve.

didn't i post earlier that "mh" in irish was "v"? and there's a couple of random vowels in the middle too...

I wint to school with a few wierdly named people

Kitchner Coote, Lancalot Rock (I kid you not), Phil McCann (sounds like Fill my can), and a guy whose middle name was Gaffakin (this ine is a phonetic spelling).

All in all most of them would have been better off with a number.

Some great ones when I worked Offshore over here.
Richard Head (not best known in USA like w**ker, but to me hillarious) and had an idiot working on my crew for bout a week before I sent him home who called his son Blade Andrew (he liked the movie Blade, sheesh) and his surname was DuBleu (Cajun) so initials were BAD. That kid better be bigger than his dad or he will get a serious a**kicking for years at school lol.
