Fuzz pedal suggestions

When it comes to Wamplers they are truly great, indeed.
I already have Triple Wreck distortion, Ego Compressor and Plexidrive overdrive pedals by Wampler.

But in my opinion you have to be careful with Wampler pedals because I found them not very transparent when it comes to conjuction with the amp you plug them in. On the other hand it might be a good thing, but their sound depends VERY much on the amp you`re using.
From the cr@ppy tone you might get an astonishing one by changing the amp.

Of course all pedals are dependant on the amp, but I find Wamplers more than the others.

but, yes that sound of Velvet Fuzz from that video is encouraging and alluring as well.

I might go off on a rant on the use of the word transparency....most of Wamplers pedals are "amp in a box" or high gain distortion.. only a few would be lower gain from my reading of the product list.. why would the former be transparent.. the whole point is to change the sound of the amp.

Fuzz is definitely not supposed to be transparent. If you buy a FF, you know it's going to sound like a fuzzface, same with a Tonebender, Big muff, Shinei, etc etc

Yes, I agree. The whole point is to change the sound of the amp. What I meant was that apart from being 'amp-in-box' and changing your tone completely, the overall and final tone of the Wampler depends more on the amp. Get Wampler pedal and amp X  and amp Y and your tone on the same settings of the pedal will differ much more than if you would do the same operation with other pedal (having those mentioned above amps).

The Fulltone 70s pedal will do those tones too, quite similar to the Wampler Velvet Fuzz in tone.  The Fulltone '69 pedal is probably more Hendrix/SRV and will do the lower gain fuzz stuff better too.

My top suggestion would be for a Roger Mayer Spitfire fuzz - I've been gigging one for about six months and love it.  It works just as well with the fuzz high into a clean amp or alternatively as a booster to an overdriven amp with the fuzz set lower (how I use it at gigs).

I actually bought the wampler pinnacle as backup in case I did a gig any my amp broke down but its so good I use it as a booster for solos too seems a waste to just leave it lying around.

Never heard of the roger mayer ones but that one sounds great as does the mongoose and axis!

Any way has any one got any suggestions on any really good value fuzz pedals?   Thinking for my first one I should be sensible and go under £50 as from past experience buying pedals I always feel really shite about my self when I spend a fortune on one and end up noticing some thing else which is better be it weeks or months down the line.

Maybe I should go with the ehx big muff as it has good re sale value?

I know the nine of swords pedals work perfectly for doomy stuff but has any one ever play them with a strat and got good results?  Theyre reasonably priced too.

Dare I say I was also looking at the biyang fz10 and it sounds pretty good for what it is..... any one got any experiece?
