I dunno  The way prices are at the moment, £1000 is a slightly funny budget, it's kind of just below the really good stuff but it's enough that you don't want to end up with a mediocre guitar either.

Agreed.  £1,000 sounds like a lot of money - and it is, of course! - but it really only gets you a mid-price guitar nowadays.

Yeah the prices have been shooting up. You can still get good guitars for under £1000 if you know what you're doing and/or get a good deal, but you can't just buy a random guitar at the guts of £1000 any more and expect it to be high end like you used to be able to not that long ago :(

Shame about Burny and Greco. MIJ Fenders are great.

You can still get Japanese Tokais. Unfortunately their prices have been shooting up, too. :(

You'd use it as a deposit for something from me surely

That's exactly what I'd do. Gotta be a Lion Supreme though

Philly, just give in and treat yourself. You so deserve it. I am pretty sure most of the forum members would like to see it cause we know you would like it. Let´s face it, you are meant to own something like it and don´t have a proper excuse not to. unlike me. So get one and make not only your self, but also folks like me happy. Show me it is possible and that deserving it can lead somewhere. Then gift me some of the stuff from under your bed.

Did not work? Ok, worth a try thought. Still, seriously, treat yourself. I think a wise man once said something among the lines of "Drink it now, don´t put it in the wine cellar." So get that freaking bottle. ;)

I certainly don't deserve it.  More a case of "I'm not worthy".

Let's see how I feel as I get closer to my birthday.  A few months to go yet.

Not under the bed, but there is room in the hallway!  Believe it or not, my guitar (....and parts) collection actually decreased in 2013.

They still good, though?

Yeah I think so. I haven't tried any of the really newer ones since the dealer here shut, but I've tried several which were (presumably) made since 2000 and they all seemed pretty good to me. Mainly the Fender copies, though, it must be said. I've got a new(ish- I've had it for a few years now but I got it new) tele copy and an older (1980s) strat copy and they're both good.

That's the only older one I've tried, though, so :? Problem is if you ask 5 different people you'll get 5 different opinions...

Yea, I heard that they've made the MIJ Fenders since 97 - not sure how much truth there is in that but it's pretty ironic and made me chuckle.

I've made my mind up on what I'm going to get now, anyway  8)
