tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs, high gain marshall?!??
« on: February 02, 2014, 04:44:29 PM »
HI guys, how are you all??
i recently discovered that (its still under investigation) im more of a Marshall guy than i thought i wasnt. I thought i was a mesa boogie guy, but i've  tried a rectoverb and Mark v and a mini recto. But, i didnt get impressed. On The other hand, i only HAD Experience with cr@p Marshall amps like mgs, valvestates and The likes. Until i have tried this jvh or jmv Head with 4 channels
i loved 2 of The amps channels, and i liked it more than The amps i have mentioned. I also had a 5150 Head + Marshall 4x12 loaded with g12t 75 that i highly disliked(the speakers only). But The Head was great, Just a tiny bit bright.

i play mostly extreme metal, but The British voice matches my body and mental energies more than my thirst for power(meaty and preciseness of mesas). The browness of The sound  , the organic factor plays a stronger role in my decision.
so, im typing via Mobile, so forgive my mistakes ahahah

What Marshall Head, all tube Amp would you recommend me??
I need : An organic sound, British mids, but TIGHT bass as well.  And instead of screaming highs, singing highs. It needs to have a dedicate clean channel and The dirty channel needs to give me high gain distortion without the NEED to add any overdrive pedal to boost anything. otherwise i would have bought a $%&#ing SS amp. Q: P

What marshall models do you guys recommend me???
    Thanks
    JP

You can't go wrong with the JVM series, they cover all the high gain sounds from Marshalls really, including the JCM800 classic.

The only other Marshall model I like is the Vintage Modern, which I think pulls off some rather unique metal sounds; it's not everyone's cup of tea though.

Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

I support that. Paul Gilbert plays VM's.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

You need a clean channel? pfffft just turn the guitars volume down. You playing some Hank Mavin covers?

Tough luck on the overdrive front too, get a JCM800 and a TubeScreamer or just pony up for a KerryKing 800 (it has a TS built in).

Fat lot of use I am, eh? Atleast I made an effort ;-p

Have you tried a Peavey 6534+?

That would be the logical middle ground between a 5150 and a Marshall JCM

Engl Powerball perhaps?

Laney have some amps that would work well for what you describe and are normally lighter on the pocket.

* A JCM800 (2204 or 2203) with a pedal will give you what you need.
* I also like the Vintage Modern alot.

both are single channel amps though.. the JVM is highly rated, but I never tried one.

It sounds to like a Splawn Nitro would be a better fit for you.

I've never liked the DSL or TSL series; I even prefer the JCM900 over them.

I agree with that.
Other options would be an Orange, like the Rockerverb 100 EL34 or the Thunderverb which has an attenuator as a nice feature.

depending on what your willing to shell out, you could also check out the Orange Dual Dark Terror that was recently announced. supposed to finally give orange a real full size metal amp.

You could look into the Egnater/Randall modular series. All tube power amp and interchangeable tube preamps. There are some great modders who do various takes on famous amps and there's quite a few Marshall inspired modules.

Check out salvation mods (based in Czech Republic) and Jaded Faith (USA).

Not the best clips but I have little time to search.

If i didn't have my SLO clone and wanted a Marshall style amp for metal it would definitely be the Ceriatone Chupacabra or Yeti
