bursts can be really nice but i'm super picky about them. the les paul i just sold was nice but i always hated the cherry burst. pretty much just bought it because it was a nice deal.

Quick question. is there an advantage to wrapping the string around the tail piece like shown in the picture? I never have done that but I see it often

Less pressure on the strings by the saddles, which helps some people with string breakage.

It also allows for that sound effect by running the pick across the strings between the TOM and the tailpiece, like on Zakk Wylde's Superterrorizer.

I used it like that for a couple years but am back to normal.

I''ve also heard it claimed that "top wrapping" makes string bending easier.... but may reduce sustain.  I don't know if either of those things are true.

On the other hand, it means you can screw the tailpiece studs right down flush with the body and still have the strings at a reasonable angle behind the bridge, which seems like it might be a good thing.  I never like the way the studs sit really high in the bushings on a lot of LPs.

I top wrap the strings on my SG Standard so that I can keep the tailpiece low but remember that you will need to cut the end off your old strings and thread them over your new ones to make sure that the strings exit the tailpiece in a way that they bend properly over the top.

The only strings where I have not had to do this are the Rotosounds that come with BKPs

Agent Orange, can you be more clear? I just strung my D'Addarios normally, just the other way around on the tailpiece.

The brass string end bead on the end of your strings.  You cut them off and then thread one over each of your new strings.  This acts as a little spacer when you thread the string through backwards so that when it comes out the other side the part where the string winds around itself is inside the tailpiece and you just have the string coming out the back.  This way it bends around the tailpiece properly and you can tension the string properly.  Most strings need this.  On the Rotosounds that winding is shorter so I didn't have to bother.
