Pickups for Warmoth build....?
« on: February 15, 2014, 03:46:03 AM »
Hello...!

So im building a Warmoth guitar.
It has a offset V(RR style) shape made out of mahogany, Goncalo Alvez neck and ebony fingerboard.
Warmoth states that Goncalo is a warm wood.
22 frets. Wilkinson VS100 tremolo (2 points tremolo set to floating, not a locking tremolo)  6 strings.

So the combination of woods is not standard at all, I think people might only guess what would be better.

I want to be able to play all things Hard Rock and Heavy metal, but not so much downtuned stuff or 90s Pantera(and after) style music.
Black Sabbath, Ritchie Blackmoore,Malmsteem, Vai, early Metallica, Anthrax, Children of Bodom, Skid row, Rhapsody of Fire, Blind GUardian, Whitesnake, Iron Attack!! (http://youtu.be/L9uQ629xvdY), and the alike.

That is the most up to date list(you might find similar post around the internet about the same concern by me :P). I really like Iron Attack's tone, and Im guessing that it would be the one I'd say if I only could say one. But the other less gainy tones are important.

Face smashing rhythm tone that does not get muddy, and crisp, bright, smooth lead tone. That could be heard in instrumental metal that has instruments not traditional of metal.

Originaly I was setling for a Alternative 8 and Full Shred Neck from Seymour Duncan that I have been recommended in other places.
But I figured I can go for a BK set.
Altough Im wondering if it really worth it or Im just being carried by the fact that I want custom boutique things and can buy them:P.

The first BK set I looked at was the Nailbomb. It seems cool. But I saw a lot of recommendations to other people about the Holy Diver set about being super versatile and very good for 80s music. And then I saw some mixed sets.

What would you recommend...?
Sorry for my bad english

I have a Holy Diver in my Jackson Dinky XL Pro. And it sounds phenomenal! However, my Jackson is a pretty bright guitar by nature, and even then, I feel like the HD makes it sound fairly dark. I have no experience with the Nailbomb personally, but from what I've read on the forums, it seems like it cuts through really well. Not saying that either is inherently superior, but I would worry that the HD might be too dark in a mahogany guitar.

The guitar seems to have pretty warm wood except for the fingerboard.

Check out the Rebel Yells.
Black Dog (b), Abraxas (b), The Mule (n), Mississippi Queen (n), Trilogy Suite (m)

For the classic tones, the Emerald would sit nicely in mahogany. The Rebel Yells would be a more modern touch with the punchy high mids and the Alnico Nailbomb would be a hotter version of the RY.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Thanks you all!

I emailed them at BK, and Ben replied telling me that the Alnico Nailbomb would be good for what I want, including the more classic tones.

The cold sweats looks cool, I like their sound clip of neo classical metal.

For now it seems like Im going to buy the ABomb set.

Anyone have a different recommendation?
