It has EMGs. Yes I'm going to change the pots =-p
**note** it had an 81 in the bridge and an 85 in the neck stock but the guy I got the guitar from swapped them because he complained the bridge pickup sounded 'thin' and the neck was too 'phat'. It's definitely balanced right now but so lifeless, sterile, and robotic. The guitar itself is lively and awesome when unplugged!
I know I've been trying to find a new tone so I acquired a Godin Redline III with the intention of hot rodding it with awesome pickups. It's going to be my metal axe but I'd still like a dynamic / responsive bridge and a neck that can really do a beautiful clean tone. Going to equip this thing with a 5 way switch for coil tapping. When I started this project, I wanted to find something to put juggernauts in. I like the idea of a ceramic combined with an alnico magnet.
Guitar specs: 25.5 scale. Double Cut guitar. Bolt on Neck.
Neck: Medium thickness rock (hard) maple neck, somewhat thin but still chunky enough. Rosewood fingerboard.
Body: Silverleaf (Soft) Maple core with poplar wings. It's got a licensed floyd rose tremolo, much to my chagrin.
Playing and trying to determine tone through an amp with EMGs is entirely useless. Playing the guitar acoustically, it sounds like a slightly darker / very full, warm, and well balanced strat. It's brighter with more mids than my mahogany body / neck guitar. It's got a different sound than my LP Standard, decidedly more strat like, but equally balanced. It's not lacking in lows, mids, or highs to my ears.
Some BKP I like the sound of that may be suitable: Juggernauts. Aftermaths. Nailbombs. I also like warpigs but they may be too dark, especially for the neck. The bridge may take an A Pig, depending on how 'thin' that position actually sounds. I like the Nailbombs but I think they'll be too bright / high mid focused.
thoughts:
Oh, and my A - Bomb bridge came in for my Les Paul. I'm hoping to do a recorded comparison between that and the Rebel Yell when I install it.
