NECK Pickup for HSS
« on: December 29, 2014, 02:27:04 AM »
Hello guys. I am here once again to ask for some help. Hope you wont mind.

I am restoring my old Fender Floyd Strat. (HSS pickups, Basswood body, Maple neck, RW finger board).

I currently have a DIMARZIO D-Activator in the bridge. I want to replace the neck pickup to match the D-Activator.
This guitar will be tuned standard, playing a variety of music from Reggae/SKA, Rock, Metal.
I like Fluid solos (ala Petrucci) from the neck pickup. I currently have a Liquifire in my seven string & that pickup sounds awesome.

Can anyone recommend something thats sounds good clean and can do clear fluid solos? I am really a humbucker guy.Hope you can help me out regarding single coils.

Many thanks!

Lol......i picked up one of those Jap Fender Squire Strat with the Floyd II a couple of weeks ago.
I am putting a Holy Diver bridge in mine and a German Floyd. The neck and middle will do me for a while though.

I would say the Irish Tour would match your Dimarzio best, but i have never tried any BKP single coils.

Hi Darren,

Those Jap Floyd strats are awesome! Mine's got the Schaller floyd already. hehe..Hope you enjoy yours!

The neck pickups are OK but I am looking for more versatility or other sound option.

The D Activator Bridge is quite hot, Im not too sure what single coil to match it. hehe

I just noticed yours has a Schaller already, so it fine atm.

Anyway, the Dimarzio is hot alright, so i suggested the Irish Tour to get as close to it as possible.

I would inspect the Trilogy- and the Sinner-neck. They're medium to high output. If you want a vintagevibe from the necksinglecoil, then a Slowhand will do the job.

I have a Jackson superstrat HSS with german Schaller floyd rose and I'm looking for fluid lead solo neck sound even it's Dave Murray in my mind... anyway at the moment I have Holy Diver bridge and Trilogy Suite neck/middle.

I'm not completely satisfied for nack, Trilogys are not for that sound and maybe I'm a "humbucker man" too
anyway I'm thinking to put a minihumbucker neck, something like a SD JBjr neck...

There is a new SC pup from BKP out next month i think, with twin rails that might work with the Holy Diver

If the TS doesn't work for you, get the Sinner or wait for the release of the Cobra-singlecoil, which is a twinblade yet true singlecoil.

real single coil with high output... modern, not for typical stratocaster sound
I only need something different, because the guitar where the TS are mounted on is played for classic metal, so I'm looking for a humbucker sound

I might wait till more about the cobra comes out. I think to recall Tim put the release date for January, so the wait should not be that long. Maybe you could already mail BKP and ask if the Cobra might be for you so that waiting will be worth it.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I guess the Cobra is (partly) aimed at the sound of the Andy Timmons-neckpickup. That might be a reference.
