after reading this i've got half a mind to cancel my paypal account.

i've only just set it up and i had my doubts about it as they ask for your sort code which you are advised/intructed NEVER to give to anyone other than your bank.

how do you actually cancel a paypal account?  does any one know how, i can't find anything about it.

Mines actually been fine except now I have to do this withdraw money thing to get my money into my bank account instead of the paypal one.. not really a problem atall to be honest.

To close your account, first log in.

1. Click on the tab that says "profile"
2. Find the "account information" list on the left
3. At the bottom of that list it says "close account" - click that.

It should guide you through the rest.

nah, don't get all para, I'm going to keep using my account. I don't really have a choice though tbh, it would affect bidding amounts on eBay, and it's all just the easy way to go, although things do go wrong. I've been using paypal since the beginning really, and so something was bound to go wrong eventually, but up until now, I haven't had a problem for years and years/.

You know, I was talking to my bank manager yesterday, and long story but I mentioned that I had money in my paypal account. Straight away, she said there were quite a few problems with paypal at the moment...in fact, I think there is a whole website on the internet devoted to it. However, if t hese problems were so completely prevalent then paypal probably would be an obsolete system...so I guess be aware of the problems but don't live in fear of them

I have been purchasing stuff online though for absolute years, and I've put my cards around in so many places I couldn't even remember a handful of them. Whoever it was that got the card details, got them from a transaction I made online, it could be from anywhere, but it could have been worse, like a grand or something, then I would have been a little more stressed about it, but I can accept losing £100 if I don't get it back. It happens.

I think that website is paypalsux.com or something. Luckily I bumped into that and other stories like this before ever signing up to it. It just seems like so many people have problems with it, it's not worth it. Stuff like e-bay's slightly more difficult to use without it, but I'll take peace of mind over convenience any day.

The thing is, the problems are quite prevalent, but most people take the risk as eBay do everything in their power to force through Paypal as the payment method used.

Ha, well the bank refunded the other 100, but this naughty person actually spent more!, all in all, about £350, in places such as river island etc, all over the net. These didn't show up at the time, they came up a few days later, but I'm sure I'll get that back too. The person provided alternative delivery addresses when making purchases, so maybe he/she can be caught? ;)

unlucky that someone cloned your card!

where is the delivery address?

pay him a visit ;)

Id agree that alot of PayPal stuff is scaremongering. I've never had a problem and been with it from the start, and used it to buy ALOT of none ebay stuff.

Data protection means I can't get the addresses he used, both river island and paypal had to tell me to get the police to ring them, and even if I did have his address, the last thing I would do is incur more cost by going to visit this person, the police can do that, and I get my money back anyway.
