If I were you I'd hold off on the pedal till you get the amp. You may not need one, or you may need a differently voiced one, etc.

I have no idea, lol.

That being said, a boost pedal won't hurt an engl, lol. And if you go for the thunder, you might need one (no idea, I haven't tried it). And it wouldn't hurt for the screamer either- the high gain channel sounds kind of metal, you'd get, I'd have thought, a better lead tone by boosting one of the lower gain channels (crunch for example), since it's much more middy and less trebly.

That's what I love about my savage se- with the rough button engaged, it's metal, and then when i switch it to smooth, it's high gain, but for solos.

Unfortunately, the savage and savage se is the only engl with this feature- although the se will do the savage/savage se tones too, since it's uber-versatile.

Hey Sam, I have a Trace Elliot Speed Twin that I bought really recently. The cool thing is that it can accept a fair variety of tubes with a minimum of fuss, so you can change the sounds slightly that way. Yesterday I put 6L6 tubes in it, played a couple of Hendrix riffs and then swapped the tubes out for EL34s and played the same riffs. There was a bit of difference even with the amp settings all the same.

It has two channels, a boost switch, plus two master volumes, so you can change your volume at any time with the footswitch without changing the sound. The tone is something like a Marshall, but with more versatility.

Now if only I could get Vox cleans, Marshall overdrive, and Mesa high gain all in the one amp, I'd be happy.

EDIT: oh, and add in fender cleans, hot-rodded marshall 80's metal tones, and modern killswitch engage-type metalcore distortion.

^yeah, that trace actually sounds pretty decent going by the specs, but i've never tried any, so I have no idea, lol.

I just spent the whole afternoon and beginning of the night with the 5150 in my room
playing
after 30 minutes of tube warm up
i played it in 3 different tunes
C, D, E!
with my 3 guitarras(soon to be 4)
and, its pretty $%&#ign tight, EXCELLENT for thrash Metal and palm mutted/non palm mutted Power chords... and riffs like SLAYER´S - SPIRIT IN BLACK Opening riff..
But, i found out that for leads and Single note runs, it lacks sustain, i mean, it lacks GAIN..
how can i solve that problem!?
