The SG is quite middy itself and then you want to put a middy pup in it. Could be overload of mids for me.
Why not try the matching Black Dog neck pup instead?
Well, really the black dog is midy, but its means are somewhat sweet, or that impression I have, while the Abraxas media seems to me to be somewhat more classic (less HI FI) and therefore more raw. That for me means more aggressiveness and a more organic tone. Also my amp is very scooped so I think the mix can be good.
I don't know why so many people mix pickups. A lot of R&D went into it the matched BKP-sets and for a good reason.
When I bought these pills I was advised by the BKP team, and at that moment I was looking for a fat sound on the bridge and something more subtle in the neck (for example to play in clean, regee, ska ...) and it was great these years .
Now I look for something with more flavor to rock, harder, with more character, and also I think that the level of volume and balance will be better in a set designed exclusively for it, that's why I pose the change :)
what you want is an actual bridge mule
Trust me, he doesn't want one. This is an SG Supreme we're talking about - maple cap and an ebony board. I had a set of Mules in mine. The neck Mule sounded wonderful, but the bridge was too bright, even with a 250k pot. Also, it lacked a bit of punch. I replaced it with a Holydiver which was much better, but also quite hot. I still think that the Supreme needs full sounding pickups to sound good, and as much as I love the Mules, they can sound a bit thin in the wrong guitar.
True, I think the mules are not my thing. The proof is that I feel thin on the neck. I'm not saying that I do not like their dynamics, it's great, but I want a little more aggressiveness to do with distortion alone. In the same way, for the bridge I look for that medium shade that gives me a slightly more real sound. I think AIV is going to give me this, while AV is thicker, and that I can get with my amplifier increasing some frequencies, but if I start from a slightly older base, I think I will have a result with more personality.
Yes the Supreme is a very different animal from say an SG Standard. It has a thick carved maple cap on a solid mahogany body.
Given what you have said regarding what you have found to work or not work, I suspect that the Abraxas might be a good choice.
It's not a known model, but I can swear that when I've played alongside other guitarists with LP, whatever the amplifier is, I've sounded the same or better and a lot more personal. Somehow this model sounds fat and hard as an LP, but has a brightness and a brilliant means that make it stand out. The sustain is great too.
Add to all this, that with any tablet you can touch everything, hehe, but I'm looking for that personal touch that makes me more authentic. Escape the heavy metal nuances to get closer to the hot crunches (which I'll feed on later with my amplifier).
Thanks for the answers. I invite you to listen to the video that I put up.
