The *NEW* 'I Need a New Guitar' thread
« on: May 23, 2006, 05:51:09 PM »
Yes, it's yet another Tell Me What To Buy thread.  Here's the story:  I've recently landed in some guitar money--about $1000 USD--and I don't have all that much time to go around trying stuff out.  So give me ideas, people!  I'm after some kind of super Strat, I guess.

I want:

    1.  An electric guitar with a humbucker in the bridge and probably a humbucker in the neck.  I don't care if it has a middle pickup or not.

    2.  Something with a small neck for my girly hands.

    3.  Some kinda trem.  I'm not decided on whether I want a floyd-style or Fender-style bridge.  I have owned both before, but I'm undecided now.

    4.  I tend to go for bright colours, rather than natural finishes.  I want a guitar, not a coffee table.

    5.  I'd like it to have a glued-in or through-neck, though that's not a definite must.

    6.  I prefer the Fender or PRS scale to Gibson's shorter one.  Again, I'm a little flexible on this.

    7.  I definitely want it rear-routed with no pickguard.
    [/list:u]

So there you go.  The things I've considered are a partscaster from Warmoth, but they only have bolt-in necks and I'd like at least one guitar where it's easy for me to reach above the 17th fret.  I like some of the shreddy guitars from Ibanez with the set necks, but the necks are wider than I really like. They're ok though.  PRS and Gibson are probably out of the question.

    Any suggestions?

Ibanez RG560 or RG7* with original wizard neck would get my vote.

Carvin ONLY sell direct new (hence good proces, no middle man), thats why ya only see used ones for sale. Gotta go online to their store. Also, they have a NO quible return policy.

ok what about THIS:

http://www.tomleemusic.ca/main/guitars.cfm?details=1&id=247&inv=105896

thats the dealer (in canada too- did that deliberately to reduce shipping (which i think is free from there coincidentally))

this is what it looks like:

http://www.theibanezstore.com/oscommerce/images/rgt42dxfmtlf.jpg

seems to meet the requirements? ish?

- through neck
- not natural finish
- trem (i think the edge ii pro is a good one? or is that the 'bad' one? i dunno)
- two humbuckers

only problem is neck profile maybe....

Thanks guys!  :D  I spent about half an hour going through those links!   I liked the Ibanez stuff and the Jackson Dinkys.

I'm still seriously considering a Warmoth bitsa just so I can get a neck that's small and vintage-Fendery.  I haven't played a JP model guitar lately, but I'll see if I can find one.  I think the neck might be more chunky than I like though, but who knows?
