This is great stuff man! Thanks for the tip!
I'll admit, I glossed over this thread initially as I presumed from the title it would just be another shred-heavy latex lover, but I'm more than happy to say I was wrong!
This is great, enjoying it a whole lot.
Reminds me ever so slightly of Shakti, but I think I am just picking up on the acoustic guitars, rhythms and odd harmony.
Indy, surely you know something about the Balkans? Like, the fact that there have been numerous conflicts over there throughout most of our lives? This music is cool IMO, precisely because it isn't Guns N Roses or whoever.
Look at the new bands that have come out that sound just like 80's bands - very few (none, really) have achieved anywhere near the success of their 80's idols. Music should be progressive, it should bring in influence from anywhere and everywhere - be that Birmingham or the Balkans - simply because if it has a note, or even just a rhythm, then it is music.
After all, Indy, you were arguing against the genre-classification of music a while back, weren't you? This music kind of reminds me of one brilliant day I had a while ago. In the mid-afternoon, I went to see a free-jazz concert; sure, the music had no obvious pulse, but if you really absorbed yourself in the music you could find your own rhythm.
Anyway, later that evening, I went to see Vai play. I quite like Vai. But the music that moved me the most that day was that of an unknown freejazz pianist, called Irene Schweizer. She's totally unknown; she doesn't even really come up on google.
My point (yes, there is one) is that music is music. Whether it comes from the 70's or the 1930's; whatever instrument plays it; whatever the production values are - music, in my opinion, is just music. So be willing to challenge yourself mate, you might find some real gems out there! :D
(not having a go btw, just rambling!)
